I'm not with Green flag, but having read this I don't think I'm ever likely to consider them.

What a load of mawkish bollocks!

Steve was driving along the A43 between Stamford and Corby. A speeding lorry travelling in the opposite direction, swerved to avoid a car waiting at a junction and crashed into Steve's car, killing him instantly.

Speeding lorry?? Hasn't it dawned on those cretins that lorries are governed, and anyway, what the f*ck has speeding got to do with that accident? Actually, the description of the accident doesn't seem to make much sense... "Speeding lorry travelling in the opposite direction" swerved to avoid "a car waiting at a junction"...?

The green flag is to the government policy of blaming everything on speed - pity green flag don't do what they're paid to do - look after the mororist and leave spins/yarns and weaving to the master truth benders -SCP.

Drive at 20mph or lower.
In areas where you are likely to come across cyclists or horse riders, drive at 20mph or lower. The faster you go, the harder you hit. At 20mph a pedestrian you knock over stands a 90% chance of surviving. At 40mph they stand a 90% chance of dying.

So that includes every part of my 25 mile daily commute then... I wonder how my boss would react to my being 3 hours late for work every day if I tried to use that as an explanation?...

probably not very well. No doubt he'd point out that even if you kept to a maximum of 20mph you could do your 25 mile commute in 1.25 hours.

not forgetting that concentration levels would be dangerously low at that speed.

essentially its 'ok' to hit a cyclist as long as its at 20mph. personally I'd prefer drivers to pass me quickly, in control, and watching where they are going. rather that eyes glued to the speedo or on the mobile because they are bored.

Well, to be fair, Green Flag service is shit anyway. Having been a member before I wouldn't be again.

"Inability to stop in time is the biggest cause of death on our roads.", conveniently vague.

"One in three deaths could have been avoided if the driver had gone slower in towns and on rural roads.", I'm not convinced this isn't a blatant lie.

"Nothing happens "suddenly" to good drivers.", unless ofcourse, you happen to come across a bad driver.

and just for good measure, the propagandists fave:-

"Having ABS brakes won't help the child you hit because you were going too fast."

Priceless. How about:

"Running in to stuff is the biggest..."

That would guarantee a driving test failure.

What about the driver was decapitated by the bucket on a JCB when it swung out from the back of a trailer in on-coming traffic. Sh*t happens

What complete crap.

Just saw the latest Green Flag advert on the TV. It shows their van speeding over tower bridge and jumping the gap as the bridge is raised. Looks like more than the legal 20mph to me.

Maybe worthy of a complaint......

Are there any breakdown operators that don't put forward wrong-headed views on safety?

For the past fifteen years I've always got breakdown cover either as part of manufacturers' warranties, through having a company car, or via my insurer, so I've never actually had to make a choice between different providers.
