Poorly maintained lines in France are a rarity.
I don't know what everyone else's opinion is, but I think over the last 5 or 6 years the standards of road markings and cat's eyes in particular seem to have dropped. There are roads I frequently drive on that used to have regularly maintained markings and eyes (ie as soon as they failed they were ripped out and replaced). Now it seems to me that they are being allowed to fall into disrepair.
I think these essential safety markings should be a priority, however, I suspect like street lighting they are at the very end of a long queue for cash.
Thoughts on this anyone?
As to the roadworks on the A419 near Swindon - that was safety barrier work, no obstruction to traffic. Didn't see any scams tho. There are now major roadworks at commonhead roundabout on the 419 with a 40 restriction due to narrowed lanes.
I think the buffer trucks are a fantastic idea, they certainly make me take notice. I cannot speak for other road users though.
I agree with Paul, though. The only person ultimately responsible for your safety is you. Drivers need to be educated as to what it's like being stood in roadworks when a artic thunders past at 56 mph though. Perhaps an awareness film would be a good idea (I understand a new one about bikers is being released at the end of the month)
