For those of you who don't know London, there is a piece of modern art near Canary Wharf- in the middle of a roundabout, a tree made up of traffic lights, ALL of which are fully-functioning and light in the normal sequence (but at totally different times to each other...)

http://www.artofthestate.co.uk/london_p ... os_001.htm

hope the link works, if not do a google image-search on "canary wharf traffic lights".

That just about sums up our transport system.

Thought you'd like it.
This roundabout is a b*stard at the best of times due to the various service/access roads feeding in, and one road in particular (Marsh Wall) is a long sweeping right-hander with NO visibility due to the buildings on either side, dumps you straight onto this roundabout (where there are also several REAL sets of traffic lights to deal with !!!).
You can get a good view of this folly when the London Marathon's next on.

its been there a few years and it completely confused me the first time I saw it. you approach from a distance see the lights and brake. then as you get closer you realise what it is.

stand there long enough and you'll see someone stop - its quite funny - but also a bit dangerous.

yeah I've "experienced" that nugget, would be suprised if it hasn't caused accidents in our "make every driver paranoid" culture, only takes one driver to panic brake in confusion and the one behind him glancing over at the roundabout to shunt him.
