Yet another disaster for a family this week.

Michelle Taylor, from Greystoke, died when the car in which she was passenger left the road and ended up on a forested verge.
The statistics tell us that young people are dying more than older people.

Almost Half Of All Fatals Involve Young Drivers
Cumbria’s problems with young drivers and their passengers dying or being seriously injured while driving on the county’s roads have been highlighted by figures released by Cumbria Safety Cameras.
Between August 1 2004 and July 31 this year, at least one driver between the ages of 16 and 25 were involved in 22 fatal collisions (48% of all recorded fatal collisions) and 101 serious injury accidents (33 per cent of all serious injury collisions).
The statistics tell us speed cameras however catch more middle aged drivers. In doing so, they bring in a great deal of revenue, which is spent on what?
SPEED CAMERAS, a Safety Camera Partnership Manager, publicity officer, a statistician, and some talivans and drivers.
They push out a few leaflets with messages of dubious effectiveness, and run a website which displays the pointless statistics we have read in my earlier post.
The CSCP website statistician wrote:
Most fatal and serious injury accidents in the Penrith rural area occur between 12noon and 5pm
so I guess that this most recent accident bucks the trend....

The accident happened at Storch New Bridge between Greystoke and Penrith on Wednesday evening.

WE'RE BUSY DOING NOTHING, WORKING THE WHOLE DAY THROUGH
TRYING TO FIND LOTS OF THINGS NOT TO DO
So, I looked on the Cumbria Safety Camera Partnership website for a link appropriate to a family who might have suffered a loss, and in the LINKS section I found..... a list of other Camera Partnership websites, a link to Safer Roads for Cumbria, and links to Speed Camera manufacturers websites!!
No link to BRAKE, or ROADPEACE, or the Samaritans.
At the end of their top driving tips is this..

Much of this advice is given on the AA web site and we acknowledge any copyright.
So there you have it, an investment of over £1 million pounds and we have rising fatalities, and driving tips you can go and get from the horses mouth (the AA website) and a whole bunch of pointless statistics.
