What shocks me more is how the terrorism act can be so fragrantly misused yet nothing happens.

My biggest question falls on the policeman where regardless it being a Labour conference or not, for what valid reason did the policemen on the scene feel it necessary to hold an 82 year old man on the TERRORISM act.

Are Al-qaeda using more cunning disguises.

82 year old terrorists?
73 year old women banged up for not paying their Council Tax?

What is the World coming to with these senior delinquents?

I blame the parents...

They don’t need a reason now do they. It’s all about big brother, It’s becoming obvious the government brought in the anti-terrorist law so that they don’t need excuses if and when they need to silence somebody who questions them. They used the Al-qaeda threat as an excuse to bring in the act, and now using it as and when it suits. It wasn’t just this old man was it, what about the peaceful protesters they arrested no so many weeks back.

I think it's a sick sick world when someone, regardless of age can be manhandled in such a way for shouting "nonsense", only then to be arrested under a vague law. As far as i'm concerned, that's the sort of thing that would have happened in the Berlin olympic stadium in 1936. All that were missing were the swastikas' and the stormtroopers.

A very very worrying state of affairs.

Welcome to Labourland!

:scratchchin:

If this new wonder-law can be used on a man shouting "nonsense" I wonder if it can be used on persons instilling fear in motorists... Like talivan drivers...

How far can you take a citizen's arrest?

And, I believe, during this conference when a member of the public outside the conference started to 'shout' at Tony Bliar when he arrived at the conference. He was (according to reports on Jeremy Vine today) arrested and handcuffed etc. All done in the best possible taste - and fully in accordance with the prevention of terrorism laws. After all, not all terrorists are easy to spot with a round black object with a fizzing fuse marked 'bomb' in their hands are they :)

I also don't think terrorists attract attention to themselves by shouting very loudly, especially with security nearby, prior to detonating their bombs.

What's worse, is that we're sleepwalking into it, we have consitutional laws are are being trodden on, abused and disregarded. The pillock (Blair of course) will go all out with the reforms now, as he hasn't got to ever suffer the consequences. How long will it be before the knock at the door, late at night comes and a member of your family is carted off into the night because they had dared challenge this despicable Government.

The irony is, that Blair took us into a war to further democracy in Iraq!! He's off his trolley.

Oh, I think that they would.

How do they increase the 'collatoral damage'? Crowds.
How do they make it a political statement & not just murder - take out non-civilians.
How do they instill fear into the politicians to screw up the coutry further - you've guessed.....

And even if this 80+ yr old had been grabbed & shot in the head 9 times because he fitted a certian profile, you can be sure that it would be 'spun' as a near miss by a suspected bomber......

These are the same people that gave us 'WOMD' dossiers. I read it (net published by the UK gov), and almost every fact was 'we project based on 1987 levels' or 'allowing for maximum sustained production, estimated stocks are at...' of course the tabliods lapped it up - Whooping Saddams army - sells papers. More interesting than Hans Blick (?), em...nuthin' here..or there.

Thought we still had freedom of speech in this country? As Wildy :neko: posted on PH - wonder what will happen in House of Commons in debates. Will all opposition MPs be locked up for questioning the PM in Question Time?

She once lived in Leipzig under the Stasis and she's passed comment many a time that Bliar reminds her of Honecker in many ways.

Bliar's excuse was the stewards and police over reacted. Highlights the dangers of following an instruction to the letter and not applying common sense! After all - those stewards will have had some set of instructions for dealing with discord...

How ironic. Honnecker reminds me of Blair. :hehe:

Ah, parliament themselves and within the confines of parliament have complete freedom of speech. Once again, the 1689 Bill of Rights gives them that right. How else do you think that Galloway can get away with his bile?

And they where on about locking the doors while parliament where sitting. The next thing you know, parliament will have there own bunker to work from where they can make unquestionable rules, have the whole country controlled by cameras with guns fixed to them, when they see something they don’t like shoot the b-------ds.
