Two points :

1) We are experiencing a great number of spam registrations so currently all new registrations have to await manual approval.
We are trying to resolve this issue but please bare with us.
If you need a very rapid registration you may contact me :
01862 893030
07721 331991
email me on carmstrong@safespeed.org.uk place 'URGENT Registration' in the subject.

2) We have been looking to upgrade the forum for some time and it is hoped that this will now happen very soon with a possibility as soon as this Friday night. Please note that the forum will be suspended from all new contributions during this time.
I will update here as soon as I know more.
I apologise for any and all inconvenience, during this time.

point 1) - Something a lot of forums are doing to stop the spam merchants . some restricting posting without restrictions to up to 10 post being approved .
point 2) - best of luck with upgrade .

We have negated the need to approve the first 10 approved posts, by introducing registrant approval. Whilst we try to do this quickly, it will inevitably delay initial posts, which is a great shame and for which I am sorry. I do hope new procedures will make this a very temporary measure.

I don't even notice the spammers anymore. However, they are a nuisance and it's good you are tackling it.

They are there -mostly foreigners . I did suggest that any registrations with a non uk country of origon be vetted etc as from my observations most advert post were from EU countries outide the uk . Latest et were shoes /handbags etc . I haven't seen many uk based spammer ,but possibly the mods can correct that impresion .

They have come from all over the world, but some countries more than others. There are now people employed to deliberately add spam too, to try and make it ever harder ! A disgusting business. I dare say a World wide Company will add everyone in to the 'genuine' list, and all others are excluded in a bid to sort out this massive global problem. It sort of happens now but it is hard to control and manage.
A despicable waste of life and time for everyone.

Once we have upgraded the forum it will help - as the latest version has much better spam controls.
I am still awaiting news on doing this.

Posted my observations in case it helps to define the problem area .

Thanks, appreciated, but it can change daily and follows no patterns per se.

Unless there's some the mods have gotten to before I see them , most come from abroad.
Might start keeping a log of offending countries to back this up .

There is a brilliant web-site at http://www.stopforumspam.com/ where you can search by username, e-mail address or IP address for newly registered suspected spammers.

It is quite surprising how prolific they are across soooooo many varied forums.

A recent report I heard of stated that 80% of all broadband traffic is of spam which is of little surprise to me. I have tens of thousands of emails which are total garbage this includes all of my own email addresses which I find repulsive. This forum only sees sudden rises in spam posted, now and then, although there is a pretty constant steady onslaught.
