Why is it arrogant to assume that slow moving vehicle in front of you is pulling in to let you pass? Although it is rarely done now in this country it used to be a common practice, one that has perhaps been kept up in LHD lands.
Arrogrant meaning : unpleasantly proud and behaving as if you are more important than, or know more than, other people.
He was not going 'that' slow ... although I am sure with more time we can work out his approx. speed. But whatever speed it was no reason to assume the action was for 'him'. Sadly I do not think that he would have been alone in this dangerous action that he did (assuming th eaction of the lorry was for his benefit alone).
As Steve quite correctly states he pulled over urgently and unexpectedly, and without indication, plus after a long length of straight road, where potentially pulling over would have been more safe. Given the snowy conditions, it was arrogant to assume that this urgent and sudden action was for his benefit alone. To not even consider and to be so very unaware of the lorries actions, that something else might just possibly be going on is frankly arrogant. I could use a lesser term like driving on auto-pilot without even any consideration or awareness of his surroundings too but I felt arrogant was more apt.
His ongoing 'relief' tells us of his fear, to his near miss and rightly so I just hope that he later analyses what he should have done and all that he did wrong.
To fail to act when when presented with the impending disaster is poor driving too, but some do 'freeze' and have never learnt to look for 'escape routes'.
