56 years after it was decided it was needed, the Bedford Bypass is nearing completion. The last single carriageway length of it.We have the most photogenic mayor though, always being photographed doing nothing

I can't see any problems there...no one exceeded a speed limit...;-)

What an appalling piece of driving by the 'video car' ! He was so obsessed about his intended overtake that he ignored every sign that the lorry was braking and then pulling sharpish into the side of the road as much as he could. Whilst he was leaving a minimal gap between him and the lorry there was nothing like enough for those conditions and if he wanted to see to overtake then he needed to be further back.
Then to cap it all he assumes from his actions, that, what, the lorry is perhaps 'pulling over (all of a sudden), allowing him to pass ?' how arrogant ! That bad attitude nearly got them killed.
What a shame that the oncoming police vehicle didn't see his bad actions!
Why did he not reverse or try anything? What an extreme lack of self preservation even - I can only assume that he was the 'rabbit in the headlights and he just froze' ! More training (a LOT more) required. I hope that he gets it!

The lorry that was failing to act to the stopped too got a serious lesson in paying attention. The lorry that stopped was doing all the right things but if his vehicle had been hit then it would likely have hit him and that is a shame as he did everything right that I can see.

Why is it arrogant to assume that slow moving vehicle in front of you is pulling in to let you pass? Although it is rarely done now in this country it used to be a common practice, one that has perhaps been kept up in LHD lands.

This was not said or implied; the assumption is yours alone.

I think it is obvious that this case was taken on its merits, in this case: the truck pulling into a snow bank, which is a bit different from puling into a lay-by, done without indication and braking as hard as it could.

Arrogrant meaning : unpleasantly proud and behaving as if you are more important than, or know more than, other people.

He was not going 'that' slow ... although I am sure with more time we can work out his approx. speed. But whatever speed it was no reason to assume the action was for 'him'. Sadly I do not think that he would have been alone in this dangerous action that he did (assuming th eaction of the lorry was for his benefit alone).
As Steve quite correctly states he pulled over urgently and unexpectedly, and without indication, plus after a long length of straight road, where potentially pulling over would have been more safe. Given the snowy conditions, it was arrogant to assume that this urgent and sudden action was for his benefit alone. To not even consider and to be so very unaware of the lorries actions, that something else might just possibly be going on is frankly arrogant. I could use a lesser term like driving on auto-pilot without even any consideration or awareness of his surroundings too but I felt arrogant was more apt.
His ongoing 'relief' tells us of his fear, to his near miss and rightly so I just hope that he later analyses what he should have done and all that he did wrong.
To fail to act when when presented with the impending disaster is poor driving too, but some do 'freeze' and have never learnt to look for 'escape routes'.

I can only assume people here have not seen many Russian driving videos.

It appears they are all boy racers and all seem to have video equipment installed.

After looking at that one I linked onto a fairly recent A90 lorry / car crash. This was where a car comes down off a d/c 'off' slip road, the wrong way and proceeds to head straight into a lorry ! The failure to look where they were travelling is staggeringly atrocious !Ouch! Especially heavy lorry as it was carrying cement bags, which then got distributed all over the place - thank fully it was not raining!
The 'Think' campaign ought to be 'Stop and Think b4 U act' Campaign!
