As you approach this roundabout, especially into the sun as here, or in the wet, it is impossible to see any of the give way line.
Since the road off to the left sweeps round, drivers are led to believe that this is a filter lane, and that drivers on the roundabout simply take lane 2 if they wish to exit to the left - and there is no reason to merge - the left exit is two lanes for some distance, so this could easily be so.

I have seen several near misses, as tourists (Southport pays lots of money to attract them) simply carry on out onto the roundabout, only to be cut up (if they are lucky) by drivers on the roundabout who make for lane 1 of the left exit - no reason to for the reason outlined above, but the drivers who fail to stop are in the wrong - through no fault of their own IMHO.

Now this is just one instance of lack of maintenance of lines causing a hazard.
Anyone in Lancashire know how to alert the authorities there, and actually getting something done?
There has been no action on this for 6 months!

In the meantime, can we use this thread and Googles Street map to record ALL instances of problems, and then visitors and regular posters can use it as a resource to alert their councils and highway authorities to their local problem areas?

Ernest - not in yer neck of the woods ,but April/May is election time ,and there's not only County blokes to lobby, but now prospective MP'S looking for a cause to champion, and their county champions are /will be only too willing to get into action to show hat they're the ones to trust /get things done -so use it to yer advantage - you won't get another chance for five years ( unless we get a hung Parliament - Mrs B reckons in that case we call in descendants of Mr Fawkes :D :D )

http://maps.google.co.uk/ and type in springhill road dawley (sorry can't get the link to work)

This is a great example. If you look at the aerial view of where new street/new road crosses springhill road, then the filter lines are perfectly clear (so the aerial shot must be about 4-5 years old). If you walk the little man you see the sate of the lines now (virtually none existant). Now springhill road has a high accident rate and although i reported these lines to be dangerously worn about two years ago they still haven't been redone (although they did the entire length of springhill road, except this bit, about 12 months ago).
I'm just waiting for the day when two non locals meet on this junction and don't know where to filter.

They've also cleared all the trees, for supposedly building a new school there but don't have planning permision yet, so may have to replant them all (they were 70 year old trees too)

My views do not represent Safespeed but those of a driver who has driven for 39 yrs, in all conditions, at all times of the day & night on every type of road and covered well over a million miles, so knows a bit about what makes for safety on the road, what is really dangerous and needs to be observed when driving and quite frankly, the speedo is way down on my list of things to observe to negotiate Britain's roads safely, but I don't expect some fool who sits behind a desk all day to appreciate that.
