Bird box ruffles drivers' feathers

Motorists were left with egg on their faces after being caught out by a speed camera-shaped bird box.
Drivers complained to the police after spotting the contraption in 64-year-old's Bill Angus's front garden in Sunderland Road, Newbottle.
The Northumbria Safer Roads Initiative (NRSI) believes it is deliberately styled to look like a speed camera and called the "Blue Peter-style device" a "noble" act.

Bill Angus placed the box on a pole at the edge of his property

A BIRD box resembling a speed camera has been putting the brakes on motorists speeding in a village.
Residents fed up with cars going up to 60mph through the 30mph zone have praised retired police officer Bill Angus for his ingenuity.
Mr Angus placed the box on a pole at the edge of his property in Sunderland Road, Newbottle, near Houghton-le- Spring, east Durham, this week.
Mr Angus said: “Why does everyone seem to think it’s a fake speed camera?
“It’s a bird box and is designed this way to stop people stealing it.
“It’s a bright colour, too, to attract the blue tits and finches.
With the cold snap the last month or two, we have been asked to provide birdboxes for our little birds.
“Since I have put it up the traffic is keeping to 30mph.
The residents are delighted.

It's about time the Police and Council sorted out this horrendous tend of additional pretend cameras.
They have caused deaths and must be stopped.
It is utter folly to claim that a burglar will be put off by a Gatso type camera - when a blue tit is attracted to yellow, since when ? If they were attracted to them then why are there not more trying to nest on or by the real one's ?
For the authorities to show even mild support is extremely wrong as it sets up a dangerous precedent.

I wonder if they might not think they are Jail Birds ? or if everyone should Smile for the Birdie ?;)
