There are two reports of this False Camera / Bird box story

Bird box ruffles drivers' feathers

Motorists were left with egg on their faces after being caught out by a speed camera-shaped bird box.
Drivers complained to the police after spotting the contraption in 64-year-old's Bill Angus's front garden in Sunderland Road, Newbottle.

The Northumbria Safer Roads Initiative (NRSI) believes it is deliberately styled to look like a speed camera and called the "Blue Peter-style device" a "noble" act.

Bill Angus placed the box on a pole at the edge of his property

A BIRD box resembling a speed camera has been putting the brakes on motorists speeding in a village.
Residents fed up with cars going up to 60mph through the 30mph zone have praised retired police officer Bill Angus for his ingenuity.
Mr Angus placed the box on a pole at the edge of his property in Sunderland Road, Newbottle, near Houghton-le- Spring, east Durham, this week.
Mr Angus said: “Why does everyone seem to think it’s a fake speed camera?
“It’s a bird box and is designed this way to stop people stealing it.
“It’s a bright colour, too, to attract the blue tits and finches.
With the cold snap the last month or two, we have been asked to provide birdboxes for our little birds.
“Since I have put it up the traffic is keeping to 30mph.
The residents are delighted.
etc ............

It's about time the Police and Council sorted out this horrendous tend of additional pretend cameras.
They have caused deaths and must be stopped.
It is utter folly to claim that a burglar will be put off by a Gatso type camera - when a blue tit is attracted to yellow, since when ? If they were attracted to them then why are there not more trying to nest on or by the real one's ?

For the authorities to show even mild support is extremely wrong as it sets up a dangerous precedent.

;)I wonder if they might not think they are Jail Birds ? or if everyone should Smile for the Birdie ?;)

Haven't got a reference .

However - we're again into two differing visions of the law .

1) - OAP spots speed trap , tries to aid road safety with sogn and gets prosecuted .
2) NIMBY sets up dummy speed camera -police take no action .

It's like situation I had several years ago - I ( and police ) knew certain house across street was dealing - I wanted to install camera to get evidence - but was advised that to do so would infringe their human rights .

That's UK,LTD 2010

I think all this publicity is a splendid way to alert people to the fact that they are fake.

Mr Angus is reported to have said "... they come along here at 80 or 90 mph..."

Pretty unlikley, I should think and gives you some idea of his ability to make informed judgements.

Typical ludicrous NIMBY exaggeration – no doubt he also said "they use this road as a racetrack"

Some more pictures of fake Gatsos here:

I take it you were unable to read his signature then Greenshed. Nitrogen bubbles in the retinas perhaps?

The claim was made in the first post by Safespeedv2, the second one that said there was no reference was from botach.
The claim therefore is from the website owner and is still unsubstantiated.
Nitrogen indeed!

Bolleaux backpedalling there chum, you quoted botach, and highlighted his text in red, using obscenity to suggest that there has been some dishonest practice. In fact there is no indication that "the site owner" has even seen this thread since the original post, let alone had an opportunity to address any further requests. Maybe there is a source, or maybe there isn't, but there is no reason to believe that anyone is acting mendaciously other than you; your response is both premature and appears at worst to be purely a machination to mislead. Since it seems from your reply that you could clearly see that it was botach declining to provide a source that somebody else was asked for, indeed by someone further, then one can only infer either a lack of clarity of thought, or intentional duplicity on your part.

Perhaps those bubbles migrated to the brain, hope you're ok!

If such evidence existed, I'd be keen to see it. The next question would very obviously have to be "so why do only fake cameras cause deaths"?
