Why isn't every speed camera switched on.
Why isn't every speed camera digital, so they never run out of film.
That's what I'd do if I was trying to make money.

The government must be trying to scare drivers into slowing down, backing up the threats with real fines and points on the licence.

If every mile of road was covered by an active camera then people could say "I hate speed cameras because I can't speed without getting caught".

Basically they can't expand the CPS or the courts fast enough.

I would prefer a more open attitude to legal speed limits for roads. I would prefer a specific speed sign that implied "this road is 40 and protected by a working speed camera with the ability to identify your number plate - if you break the speed limit the owner of the car will be fined unless it was reported stolen." No loopholes, everyone rich or poor, powerful or weak will be done. Emergency vehicles would be exempt because their audio visual extravaganza gives extra warning to innocent pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists and motorists.

I don't like the camera signs with no cameras and I don't like the idea of slowing down for non-working cameras. Are they taking the p**s or trying to make the roads safer?

If insurance companies could also mind their own business about speeding fines, that would be helpful too.

That would be a breach of international law, i.e. the right to a fair trial and a presumption of innocence.

Gordon, your plan is actually a licence to speed if you can afford it. If you had a million quid in the bank would the threat of a £60 fine bother you?

What we actually need is sensible enforcement of sensible limits.

I am sure you wouldn't be so keen on this law if someone was using your registration number on another car.

Or can they afford to replace the cameras at the rate they are being put out of action by robin hood

The questioned still must be asked is it a safe limit.

It could be higher or lower.

If 40 is safe in the dry, it is unsafe in wet or icy conditions.

We need sensible limits, with tolerance of suitable enforcement :!:
