...with an angle grinder! :o

The camera on the A65 was placed after concerns of local residents.. apparently - and has saved hundreds of lives! :shhh:
Police say it will cost a lot of money to repair, and no motorists will escape prosecution, as the pictures are sent immediately via the internet.

They intend to ask the last motorist detected, if they saw anything suspicious. :bunker:

Safety has been affected, with several collisions between vehicles and walls, within a few miles of the camera site... mostly before the removal, during last weeks snows!

I rather suspect that they mean the ones already taken, which may (or may not) include the culprit!

The housings are fitted with smoke detectors, which trigger an alarm at HQ if somebody tries to set them alight - I wonder if the angle grinder generated enough smoke to travel up the column and into the housing? :gatso3: :rotfl:

You can only hope the miscreant observed all the relevant H & S rules regarding angle grinders, or he could be in even more trouble! :readit:

Wonder how many false alarms it would take before the smoke detectors got ignored

It's finally made the news...
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/cumbria/8454367.stm

BBC report wrote:
Vandals cut down speed camera in Kirkby Lonsdale

Vandals using a grinder are being blamed for cutting down a roadside speed camera in Cumbria.

Police say damage to the camera on the eastbound carriageway of the A65 at Devil's Bridge, Kirkby Lonsdale, is estimated at more than £30,000.

The incident happened early on Sunday and detectives are now examining images of speeding incidents in an effort to trace those responsible.

The Cumbria Safety Camera Scheme said the attack put people's lives at risk.

'Steady reduction'

Scheme manager Kevin Tea described the vandalism as "anti-social" and "highly irresponsible".

"Since the safety cameras started operating in 2003 there has been a steady reduction in the number of people being killed or seriously injured on the county's roads," he said.

"What the individual who committed this act does not realise is that speeding offences captured on the camera are transmitted immediately to our back office system.

"Removing the camera does not remove the offence so the police will be seeing who has been through at excessive speed and checking out those drivers who have been caught."

Kevin Tea wrote:

He must already know who did it, unless he is making bold assumptions - even I knew that the pictures were beamed back, and so must a lot of other motorists.
It just goes to show that the "Safety" Camera Partnership personnel think that ALL motorists are stupid!

I also see that they are being referred in the press reports as a SCHEME now, instead of a PARTNERSHIP.
I wonder if that was a slip of the reporters pen, or a Freudian slip?

Strangely, the original CSCP partners did not include the NHS or the Fire Brigade, as was usual in other "Safety" Camera Partnerships. :speakno:

A quick glance at their website's "News" page, shows this latest hiccup in their operations has not been recorded.
In fact, NOTHING has been posted since 25th July 2007!
They really are getting paid to do nothing! :juggle:

Also, Kevin Tea is quoted as saying:
CSCP mouthpiece wrote:
“Since the safety cameras started operating in 2003 there has been a steady reduction in the number of people being killed or seriously injured on the county's roads.

In fact he misrepresents the truth - the decline was NOT steady, the first few years saw a RISE in deaths, with a near record number in 2006!

Their Speed Camera Crystal ball even saw a claim that a proposed speed camera at Plumpton on the A6 (which was blocked), could have saved 6 deaths in a single accident - this despite the vehicles were NOT exceeding the posted limit!
Their chief schemer has left, and now works for RSS as an "expert" witness.
Yes, as an expert mountebank, weaving his tales to the partners on the bench!!!! :liar: :judge:

Don't worry about the £30,000 - that's just 500 FPNs and the authorities will be back in pocket. Anyone care to guess how many FPNs the CSCP issue in a year? :scratchchin:

Heard of long-term trends, Kevin? It's in the classic Four year report, literally right alongside RTTM - oh I guess you don't know about that either

Since 1950, there has always been a reduction in the number of people being killed or seriously injured on the county's roads (following a consistent and definable mathematical trend), so what?
The real trick here is knowing that since these cameras were installed, that rate of reduction has significantly reduced - the fatality gap (a simple but irrefutable concept one of your trolling colleagues failed to [admit to] understand).

Kevin (and greenshed) should be pinged :stirthepot:

...which would, indeed, be a good trick! (In fact, if they could pull it off, Kevin and Co. ought to be made honourary members of the Magic Circle) :rotfl: !

But then ,wasn't there some rogue magician on the scene to give away the secrets of the tricks -not a rogue ,but I'd bet he's sitting on a cloud relishing how they're rotating ,trying to spin their way out of their present crises .

I wonder how long the camera will be out of action?

If its out for any length of time, following CSCP logic, there will be a large increase in the number of KSI's at the location

Err... they did not see the speed cam... so how would they have noted a bloke with a big angle-grinder? :?

If they gritted the ruddy road .... Durham managed to get a snow plough on their side ... we saw that on BBC news at tea time. They went up to the Durham border with Cumbria.
