You obviously don't get the Corporate bit of Corporate Nazi, Corporate Nazism is all about using the government to force people to buy goods and services which they either can't afford or are of no real benefit to them. Obviously they want everyone on a permanent overdraft in order that the banks can collect a " private tax " in interest and charges, the result of which is virtual slavery. The Nazi bit comes from an insistence on enforcing petty regulations, which the German Nazi's were renowned for, many old people who actually fought the war know what I am talking about, one on TV fairly recently described the smoking ban as " fascist ". No need for concentration camps these day's, its more profitable to freeze and starve you to death in your own home, especially if you are disabled and don't qualify for winter fuel payments like OAP's, and they are talking of reducing disability payments for many people. Guess where the idea originally came from, as usual the celebrity stock market parasites.

The smoking ban, encouraging recycling and speed cameras have nothing to do with nazism and to describe them in the way you do is an insult to the victims of genocidal murder.

There is actually a surprising degree of commonality between Nazism and some strands of contemporary environmentalism.

"Reducing road deaths to zero", How ridiculous is that, not even a five year old could possibly be naive enough expect to believe that is ever going to happen. If the govt. want to cut deaths why not concentrate on the 24,000 old people who died just last winter, eight times as many as that died on the roadin a whole year and that was just in a few months......could it be that it isn't going to make them money but help save them money, ?

You mean how environmentalists herd gypsies, catholics, communists and jews into gas chambers?

This is a very odd, scary place.

The realistic attainment of the ultimate object doesn't matter, what matters are the results, strict speed enforcement along with other measures made the roads qualitively safer, that's what any sensible road safety policy should aim for. Targets may be unattainable, worthwhile benefits may still acrue.

You get scared very easily, are you sure that you are safe to be driving at all with all those scary cars out there?

So what are the govt doing about the old people? How many will die this winter, which is the coldest for a long time and much colder than last.

Then there's MRSA, Asbestos related deaths and lots more which equal or exceed road deaths...not money makers though are they?

In 1995 there were a total of 572 road deaths in Sweden, or a fatality rate of 6.5 per 100,000. A decade later, in 2005, Sweden recorded some 440 road deaths or 4.9 per 100,000. By way of comparison, in 1995 there were 2,995 road deaths in England or 6.1 per 100,000 and ten years later there were 2,735 deaths, equivalent to 5.4 per 100,000.

Sweden now has one of the lowest road fatality rates in Western Europe, matching that of Norway, with only the Netherlands scoring a lower rate of 4.6 per 100,000.

Why do you claim only a "Five year old" would support such measures, graball?

Are they not worthwhile, life-enhancing results?

First you say:

Yet you admit that, in some circumstances, higher speeds DO NOT make more accidents likely,
which greatly reduces the impact of your first statement, if I may be so bold.

We already know that you acknowledge the existence of many different scenarios,
not just m-ways and "all the rest". So we have to split it out to make sense of what you say.

But of course, pretty soon, there are far too many different scenarios, some of them
temporal, which defy simplistic categorization. These are called "the merits of the case"
by most of us, but it needs a modicum of human judgement to find them, doesn't it?

That's the point, you see. Cameras ignore "the merits of the case" completely. And that's
why they are unjust. It's just the way it is, oliver, and no person should need a set of academic
references to tell them about that.

Sorry if that seems blunt.

No, specifically I said roads where cyclists are banned have few cyclist collisions. To use this fact as a justification for higher speeds on roads shared with cyclists is crass stupidity.

Again you are showing your lack of "experience". If you had ever driven in those countries you would know that their standard of driving is far higher than the uk, it is nothing to do with speed but all to do with drivers skills and education, which this country sadly lacks.

Perhaps you missed my reply so, at the risk of the debate moving at the level of the contributor with the slowest comprehension, the worthwhile benefits can still acrue. The Zero Tolerance in Sweden has achieved remarkable results and I'd like to see it here in the UK.

If you disagree please explain why without resorting to abuse.

The link I've posted twice now makes it clear that speeding was expressly targetted, which of course you know, cos you DID read the link?

very funny but you wanted zero deaths...not me!And yes speeding was targeted but driving standards are far higher over there and that is what will reduce deaths more than speed issues.

You don't want zero road deaths even though setting that target works brilliantly? One death is too many, IMO.

So what about the other"needless" deaths in this country, doesn't that bother you?
