The film on BBC1 last night showed up the history of car crime.

Startling and significant stat emerged (and in keeping with my vigilance on two regionals which cover a large city and a fairly robust market town) .. the fact that KSI of the 70s-early 90s ... involved 80% stolen cars and that the addressing of making cars less easy to steal had HALVED KSI on UK roads...

Each evening I open up various regional press to see evidence of car jacking.. car hi-jacking.. chav-mobile crashed created by the completely illegals and un-pingable :banghead:

Speed cams SAVE lives ..eh?

Try telling that one to the bereaved families who suffer losses as a result of the illegal from hell every night.. the drunk driver.. the unlicenced prat in his unregistered chav-mobile.

We all know the real truth .. and the BBC progs such as that one spell it out in its unlaundered soiled underwear .. to be blunt. Just sometimes Aunty Beeb's worms turn... and perhaps we should count some blessings that some fairly unique types who have the courage not to toe the party line within the BBC when editing and splicing the tapes showing the really ugly truth here.

in the 80's cars were generally stolen to be joy ridden. They were often stolen by under seventeens.

Todays car thieves are more likley career car thieves looking for £15+k cars.
one interesting point is that they are geting the vin number and faking the documents overseas and blagging the ignition key from dealers overseas. That might explan how my sister lost her posh landie from a "secure" airport car park. The vin number is now displayed in the windscreen by law  It might be an idea to slide a bit of cardboard infront of it.

Oh .. certainly it's why car jacking and "fishing through the letterbox" or worse for the car keys has risen in recent years. Prior to that .. every other key would start up every other Ford or Vauxhall.

But whilst idiot thieves still cause all of the accidents.. the police reckon that the KSi rate has halved because of better anti-theft security put in place by those selling in the UK market

Now this stat does question the claims made by the scammers that the scams alone have achieved the KSI reduction.. given that the first scam placed on that London road under the "4 dead rubric" was actually "4 dead because the idiot behind the wheel had stolen the car and was trying to out-drive the police" :banghead:

So the point is to what extent have other means to control rogue drivers cut the KSI figures in the UK.. :scratchchin: given many of Ks at scam sites appear to be 4 or more dead as a result of their own actual thieving stupidity  .. per the press reports each and every day in every regional newspaper.. I do not have the time to paste up all of it... I concentrate on three North West rags serving towns I think representative of the UK..

Stats again! you wont see them publish the number of KSI by the same type today! Likewise you wont see them publish the speed related to the fatalities on routes where they put cameras very often. If someone is killed doing 40 in a 60 they can then stick a camera there within a certain distance of the fatality but they wont reduce the speed to 30 which is another reason why camera arguments are bo*****ks. Very few people look at the reasoning behind the location of many cameras as the devil is in the detail.

Hi Mad Moggie,
You say prog was on BBC1 on Wed July 23, can I ask what was it called and when was it on?
And can you also remember about when in the prog this claim
"KSI of the 70s-early 90s ... involved 80% stolen cars and that the addressing of making cars less easy to steal had HALVED KSI on UK roads"
was made?

I'd like to see if I can watch this prog to hear this claim.

Surely, if it's true, then the massive ANPR campaign of this year and last will have made a major difference?

We are slowly getting to the stage whereby the simple act of getting in to the car is going to result in a fine
