Okay I've got one of these to go in my van, which has a tail for "steering wheel control". A little research leads me to conclude this is perhaps something that works with korean cars, as there seems to be little on the market in the way of merc steering wheel adapters other than blaupunkt and pioneer bespoke units, which apparently, evan if they worked with my comp, would kill the on-board computer control.

So can I buy a programmable CAN-USB adapter that would listen to the CAN and trigger the correct response ie vol/track in the comp? I see there are such devices, how difficult is it to set up?

A quick search on the internet found this forum discussion. May be worth a post there..

If you want to take a chance on compatibility there appear to be a number of proprietary adapters on the market..

sorry ?

you're wanting to intercept CAN messages sent by buttons on the wheel ?
(assuming those signals are available on the CAN and not hard wired)

vector & peak both make USB based CAN adaptors, don't come especially cheap as i recall and not 100% sure how easy the API is to interface.
