Hello,

I am doing a bit of research for a business I am thinking of starting, but I need a bit of information from all you truckers out there!

So, as there is no poll feature on these forums, it makes it a little less effective, but none the less, just post your answers and any comments you have.

(I just realised the poll section, but a poll like this wouldn't be as effective in a non-trucking area of the forum:p)

I don't want to disclose exactly what it is I am going to do, but it will provide truckers with more entertainment while waiting to board a ship or while 'laying up' at a port and as the business progresses, it may even provide this service along busy trucking routes.

So...it all involves laptops, pda's, or basically anything which is wireless enabled...

Laptop Users

1. Do you carry a personal/business laptop on-board your truck cab?
2 Is the laptop wireless enabled?
3. What do you use the laptop for, if you carry one?
4. Would you benefit from having internet access from your cab, via your laptop?
5. Would you be willing to pay for internet access from your cab, via your wireless enabled laptop?
6. Do you currently use your laptop to access the internet anywhere, while trucking?

PDA Users

1. Do you carry a PDA onboard your truck?
2 Is the PDA wireless enabled?
3. Would you benefit from having internet access from your cab, via your PDA?
5. Would you be willing to pay for internet access from your cab, via your wireless enabled PDA?
6. Do you currently use your PDA to access the internet anywhere, while trucking?

There are many other wireless enabled devices out there, if you carry any other wireless enabled devices post them up too!

You should get the idea of what it is I am proposing to do :D

I would really appreciate it, if all the truckers on this forum would fill out answers and post them up, as not only will it benefit me, it may well benefit you in the long term, once I get my business up and running!

Thanks for your time

Gregg Thompson

Is there something wrong with your r key ?

Oh.. My PDA is also a SatNav ( Acer N35)

Image

which is getting pretty old now... So Wireless facility, although capable, is not built in.

Oh.. I wouldn't recommend this unit to anyone ... Not because it's crap but because of the power plug.

To explain...

For some inexplicable reason Acer doubled up the charge port with the computer connection.. What this means is... when using in your vehicle, you have a whacking great connector sticking out the bottom that stresses the Motherboard connection.

Yup.. Mine pulled off. Fortunately it was JUST in warranty so I got it fixed.

Why didn't they make a separate Nokia style power connection ?

Simple.. but very effective.

No there isn't something wrong with my R key.

Lets get back on topic, I asked replies to answer my questions not to explain about how there PDA doesn't work properly.

Yes, tell me if it does/doesn't have wireless, but please answer my questions.

Outcast, please re-reply answering the questions I asked. Thanks

Ok.. Back on topic

I have absolutely no idea what tucking is.

I know what Tucker is but not in the context you are referring to.

Off topic...

There is nothing wrong with my PDA.

I was merely warning people of an inherent problem of my pda so they have an idea what to look for when/if they purchase one.

Ahh gee, sorry! I see I have written tuckers in many places instead of TRUCKERS, as in Lorry Drivers.

Apologies! :(

How many truckers carry a laptop/pda onboard their cab?

It might give the Poles something to read on those long boring m/way drives...

Try asking over at www.truckersworld.co.uk.
