I saw this ad in the Lancashire Evening Post yesterday -

FIXED PENALTY OFFICER

You will have responsibility for processing fixed penalty tickets and camera enforcement notices. You must possess good oral communication skills, be able to type accurately at 35wpm and have experience of computer inputting and interrogation (of suspicious web sites).
Experience of working within a customer focused environment and the ability to deal with conflict are essential, as is experience of working using initiative and to tight deadlines.

(My bold!!)

Salary BTW is £11841 - £16347

Deal with conflict - surely not

Closing date is 27/7/07 in case anyone's interested

Interesting how experience in a "Customer focussed environment" is important to them. They could have said "experience in a public facing role essential", but they didn't. The use of the word "Customer" is proof that they think of themselves as a business rather than a public service.
