No, you're right. I've never had it so good. Let's see...

My country is awash with immigrants
I have to make an appointment to see my doctor in advance of any illness
    My roads are badly congested
I pay enough tax that would eradicate the gross national debt of a 3rd world country
I have to put up with idiots in LA/Govt
I have to put up with artificial congestion
I have to put up with so-called british nationals bombing my cities
Hmmm, yeah - I can't wait to see what other fantastic benefits the future is going to bring!

Don't forget that you are a motorcyclist and thus are treated on a level lower than rapists and murders

Ahhh what it is to be British. My upper lip has never been so stiff, unlike other parts of me :grumpy:

Well, it depends on what it is. If it's a sexy lady then good enough is never near enough.

Why do we 'deserve better'?

As I wrote earlier, rather than complain, what are you DOING about it?

Depends. Pit work requires less accuracy than model engineering.

we always deserve better. As a race if we don't strive to improve we will die.

I'm doing my bit when I can as te opportunities arise so don't worry about me.

I take it you've never done much mining.

I'm not bothered about you as an individual, I'm bothered about people who would rather vicariously moan behind the anonymity of an internet alias rather than actually do something about it.

The quote is 'close enough for pit work'.

I'd be interested in your definition of "improve" in this context because, as a race, we are just about the most unsuccessful thing ever to exist on this planet and all of us, (me and you too), are doing more harm than good.

Dinosaurs may not have got a dinosaur on the moon but they outlasted us by millions of years.

I guess the light that burns twice as bright burns half as long

You can't say that - we're still here.

Just another 200 million years to go to catch them up and with our track record, it's not looking good :scratchchin:

Mankind will probably have a head the size of a beach ball by then and London will be under 500 ft of water.

I wonder what cars will look like. Hmmm...

you've got to hand it to 'them'...whoever they are they've almost succeeding in brainwashing the whole of the UK.

Brown and Blair are always on about 'big tent politics' or 'a government of the talents' but this fills me with dread. I want 'punch and judy politics' I don't want consensus....I was debate and conflicting options.

I hate the soothing nannying tones that start sentences with things like....'i things we all agree...' I BLOODY DO NOT AGREE!!!

You've never had it so good. The white heat of the electronic information age allows people to communicate far more easily than they ever have done before.

But I don't see that it is not being put to particularly good use. Wat Tyler killed a tax inspector and started a rebellion. George and James Loveless, James Brine, James Hammett, Thomas Stansfield and his son John were transported to Australia for started a Union and a march on Parliament got them a reprieve. 30 or so people look at their screens here and moan.

Are you, as an incensed 'minority', actually planning to DO anything?

And what can we DO, exactly? Tony Blair (we'll have to see what gordon's like but I'm not hoping for too much) ignores the protests of voices that number in millions; has binned half the constitution that took civil war to win, and installed more survalence cameras than any totalitarian dictator has dreamed about. yet most people accept this with a quiet resignation at best, "it could be worse", or passive acceptance. And it will get worse, it will have to get a lot worse before enough people wake up from their comfort zones and face whats happening. Till then we're wacko's, a fringe element most do not care to understand.

I've more or less come to the conclusion most people are sheep that want to be led, that are happy to give up their liberties so long as it means they don't have to think for themselves, and that I'm just the odd one out. One day perhaps the tyranny leading the people today will become so overbearing the sheep will revolt and civil war will break out; but they'll still be led through it, and nothing really changes.

Well, I don't feel the problems are anywhere near as bad as some of you seem to think. So 'What do you want to do'? is my rhetorical answer.

In the spirit of not being too scared to say what I think.....

* Sadly this country has a small number of ignorant (but vocal) bigots in the population.
* My doctors surgery is well staffed and organised and I have no problem getting an appointment. I even have an excellent NHS dentist.
* I share the roads with others, the volume of traffic wanting to go from one place to another at the same time can cause delays. But I'm one of the ones causing it.
* I pay less tax than many of my European friends.
* All over the world people vote idiots into Government and then complain.
* Traffic planners for our elected idiots like trying ideas out for their masters.
* I have had to put up with terrorists bombing cities all my life. As many of them as I can remember have had a grievance that was created or caused by the idiots that we have voted into power.

I find myself in total agreement with you both. Great points, good reading!

It all suggests to me that a democracy simply doesn't work but in the absence of anything better we're stuck with it.

Sadly, I think eventually you have to vote with your feet, which I believe you were contemplating Hairyben? If your country is letting you down you have to look elsewhere, as I did. It's no different to working for a bad company - when you reach your $hit point you have to leave.

I'll keep my finger in the Dyke for as long as I can but at some point I'm going to run like mad.

perhaps, the grass is always greener though and you can't run away from your own perceptions of the world. I do plan to take a holiday in canada sometime though and perhaps scout the place out.
