Stourbridge ladies have the cycling bug.

The founder lady apparently was struggling to lose a few stubborn pounds (weight ones

) Her brother - an active member of the Stourbridge Bicycyle User Group (Stourbug) told he to take up cycling.
They decided to train up to 10 ladies to ride 40 miles - starting from absolute scratch. He sent out a PR. He got swamped with replies from interested ladies
None of the ladies had ridden a bike since childhood. Per the CW article - all noted a feeling of well being, confidence and the camaraderie of belonging to a group.
Moral of story. Forget a cycling club proper. Get your own group together and make some pals. I think it could bring back that old forgotten skill of
talking to each other properly and re-kindling community spirits.
Way to go Stourbugsters!
