Hey,

My friends mum was caught yesterday driving down a one way street on CCTV. Trafpol were informed and they pulled her some time later. They said they didn't know the location of the offence, but told her she had been witnessed on CCTV driving the wrong way on a one way street. They issued her with a FPN for 3 points and £60...

I think it's probably too late for her because shes already accepted the FPN but maybe I'm wrong? Doesn't seem quite right to me just, surely they should have told her the location of the alleged offence? She doesn't remebmer being on a one way street the wrong way... What if the signage isn't up to scratch on the road? The CCTV obviously doesn't show this...

Any help is appreciated :)

double check the signage, i would imagine she was picked up on camera after she had entered the system, but there after no doubt your friends mother would have been followed by the CCTV until she was intercepted by the police

Thing is she says the police officer didn't know the location of the offence... His mum knows what town she was in and she reckons it was there that she was seen. The police intercepted her on her way home, she was outside the town and I guess she probably popped up on the ANPR in the car...

I thought it was £60 + 3 points (or, up to £1000), ie. a red traffic light is a sign...?

I think that the signs are the important thing. Pass them in the wrong direction and you commit an offence.

606 (left/right/straight on only - blue circle, white arrow)
609 (turn left/right only ahead)
616 (no entry)

Of course, at night there may be illumination requirements.

Actually if it was a principle road the sign must be illuminated and all other "order" signs at that junction.

Also see pepipoo this thread they got penalty charge notices (no points) It does not seam that you are being treated equaly.

Did the road have a valid traffic order?
see this thread
Were you charged with the correct offence to match the traffic order?

You can have endless fun with signs.
