Presumably the intended daily locations of these 'safety vans' will be published?

According to the PR release posted by Dr L they will be publishing a schedule.

PR wrote:
He went on to state that the project will establish a dedicated web site and publish a schedule of where the cameras will be over a specific period. This information will also be passed on to local newspapers and broadcast media for publication.

Whether this will show where they will be operating on a daily basis isn't clear, and I doubt it will. I take it that "specific period" means they could operate anywhere over a given area on different days.

err, why Australia?

I think he got lost in his yellow submarine. Ist a real nowhere man going nowhere with road safety imporvements

Steviebabes (we know you lurk ) .. Oz ist not Cumbria und outback has very different road conditions

He been submarinated for too long...

Back when we had a falling fatality rate in Cumbria, the POLICE used to place cameras all over the place as and when they were needed, and until recently, still did!

True.. We note it go up since he took charge und not one day pass without something happen at Shap. It never used to to this extent. It seem to start .. when the van go there

Police in Cumbria are set to be the first county to take advantage of a recent relaxation in the rules governing the positioning of cameras.
So the police are set to take the blame for this?

Did the CSCP get a jolly out to Australia to study how they did it?

But of course. I call it "manipulating blame" by blaming the police for this when ist his decision und he want the plaudits if it work ,, but not if it fail

Und as said Oz ist not here

Besides .. Steviebabes .. you have three vans. Durham has the one und policemen doing the rounds. So has N Yorks. Life seem safer und a bit calmer in those areas.

But surely - these vans should be better placed doing the rounds in different locations und not at Ings (once occurred in past when he first suggested this on his old forum by the way  ) .. which ist sandwiched between two NSLs so any acceleration at the changed lolly ist actually legitimate - so thus not "manipulating that scamera "

But I still say more COAST und Think Adverts such as the one with the parent und road safety (which ist actually very good by the way ) being shown between the Soaps und not a one o' clock in morning after a Panorama repeat  ) would be better policy of safety led road use.

I think he talk of twazak called Tone whose only "touring" is with a mouse click.

Actually.. I watched a documentary on Monday. It reminded me of a certain type of person  in that the only way they respond to criticism ist by ad hominem attacks  especially if no argument to counter

Blimey - I saw your name and though "Blimey!"

:welcome: to the the common sense zone of more or less refined reasoned debate anyway.

For the most part - I think debates on here are reasonably balanced and relatively few get over-heated on balance.

But again :welcome: and do take a peek at the "Cycling" forum too.

I heard Steve Callaghan on the radio. He gave the impression there would be no publication of sites.
He said his colleagues abroad laugh when told he has to paint his fixed cameras yellow. He obviously hates the rules as they stand.
He also admitted to speeding persistently in the past but had "seen the light". As the presenter said "there is no more zealous than the converted"

Unlike, I suppose, the ones in Spain that are fluorescent orange, the ones in France that are edged round with reflective yellow / black striped tape and always announced by a f*cking-great-sign saying "Velocite controle par radar" a couple of hundred metres before the camera, ...

And when the sign says there is a camera.... THERE IS a camera, not like here where they cry wolf so often in order to lull you into a false sense of security!
Not sure if it applies everywhere, but all the ones I have seen in Brittany and around Nantes are at definate hazard sites!

It's clear they are desparate to up the financial returns now.
Of course, spread more thinly but at random locations they will possibly increase the total of cash collected, but it's just so unlikely that they will reduce casualties.
What will they do then. It's a 'last throw of the dice' if casualties do remain the same or increase. No doubt they'll 'spin' their way out of it, once again, and resort to dubious statistics to continue to justify their useless jobs.

Hallo Liebchen

ja // Family have read the latest nonsense und cannot decide which they find funniest - twazak's post on this thread or the one he post on a more serious discussion on the Panorama show where reporter lost temper at the 'ology of lah -lah land  I cannot use the right terminology I would love to use as this investigation made me think "Stasi" und you have then to be very careful as to what you say und do

I think Swiss Andreas und his little chums "Dresden Andreas" und UK Andrew und one other we find to our chagrin in his little arsonistic team  established they are brought up "Roman Catholic" We all are - und regardless of common sense und cold conclusion as "toppest scientist" - you still want that warm sense of something traditional und in a human admission of its frailty if you like

(I grew up looking up to Cousin Andreas: he ist a right "tinker" (which ist meant as Rhyming slang

I can say it as he ist family und know me und not be "offended"

Nice ice skater und very controlled in competion.. we did pair once only he too "intense" for me  His catches of me "safe" - but I did not enjoy being "thrown by him und had problems landing from his force und it cost us marks in that precise sport which look at skills but at partnerships even more  ) Look I know he argue to gold medal standards - I been there und lost with him. Und I only argue with him what everyone else would do

I can only ask twazak to read what he post again und think how nasty he appear to internet world und how he undermine all cyclists by appearing to be such a nerd with deep psychological issues . He not win people to his cause. On other hand .. und not praising IG .. but I have heard people in our local say they rather like reading this site und never appreciated the skills which make up real cycling before this. Und IG speak from gut.. und he also promote the mags on here too. He post up oppo letters. He say why he agree or disagree with them. He do so in a fair way und he also plug those mags und encourage purchases too.

We encourage cycling und walking but still say driving should be a skill und we should derive greatest pleasure in doing something skilfully und with respect to others.

Hardly anti-cycling then.
Und we criticise numpty drivers in same way as numpty cyclists und for record to spindrift in particular I address this one

I read a report of a really stupid woman who chose to test a car she wished to buy. She drove a car which she was unfamiliar with at a speed which was unsuitable for the road on which she drove. She also wore high heels (it matter not to me whether ride bike in high heels or flip flops ..ro drive car in this sort of footwear. Ist not at all safe st choice und very silly indeed  )

But she collided with another und brought about their death. She try to kill herself.... she get spared prison. Bereaved show tacit dignity und woman was beside herself with the guilt.

I do not think person will wish to drive again for longest time. My thoughts are with her as I am far too much aware of this deep guilt on part of decent person who cause death by sheer accident of their own stupidity und lack of judgement  Spinny will despair of course. I do respect his feelings despite his bile to contrary .. but as a balanced humanist I must see each side - und someone who cause such grief also grieves badly too und a fair society cannot afford to ignore this nature of accident und human grief by all sides after all  I hope spinny understand this point without anger und with the logic I would love to think he capable of  I sure he does really see .und repsect the alternative point of view . but he ist so stubborn  He really a kind of kindred spirit in completely polarised world which also want ultimate road safety. I hope I get close to you Liebchen here - but I know Paulie could not let you reply as far too much bad blood now. But maybe you can find nice polite und inoffensive way of reply without the malice to me und mine on your fave site :? I to offer you a hand of peace here. I would love for you to take it - but perhaps I spit on behalf of my family in Atlantic Ocean again

For record ..I do despair of people who test drive a car with zero skills und wearin high heels or flip flops. I also do despair of people who ride bicycles in similar inapprorpiate footwear.

In my world of very serious regard to safety on the roads - hi-viz lycra, poper vehicle lighting , correct shoes .. gloves /. helmer.. decent goggles.. bikability led doctrine und like in my car seriously COAST led style of drving or cycling.

BUT

however you travel - you respect und work with all others using that road as an equal.

I do try to work to these principles. Und I und rest of my family try to improve the lot for all. I would love some folk who say they want what I want.. more cops... professionalism.. to stop being so silly und campaign for what 90% really want.. POLICE und not ROBOTS
