Just a follow up on the scientific experiment...

First pint, poured into clean glass: no overflowing. So far, so good.
Second pint, poured into used glass: still no overflowing.

This seemed to disprove the theory, however in the interests of science I decided to continue the experiment anyway, and found an interesting result. Whilst the first drinks poured without any excessive frothing or overflowing - as noted above - by the time the 5th or 6th one was being poured it was slopping everywhere, I even woke this morning to find it all over my shirt!

Explain that! :D

Again, thanks for all the help and advice. I've checked under the carpets and they seem dry. I have removed the wet cloth from the car and that has helped a bit.
It may be possible that the pre sale valet has also caused additional problems, also the nature of my journeys, mostly short trips ,doesn't really give the car a chance to perhaps heat up and dry itself off enough.

But rest assured I will be making a nuisance of myself at my local VW dealership until the problem gets resolved to my satisfaction. I always believe it's important to have the problem logged at an early stage, then when they try to squirm their way out of continued responsibility when warranties expire it gives you good support for your claim for continued warranty repair.

Congrats on the new motor JT (although I liked the old one). Looks like I may have to do a drive past to see what it is.;)

Thanks for the congrats everyone on passing the exams. :D
It does sound a bit grander than it is (advanced collision investigation), as it is basically a fairly condensed course of relevant maths and physics, and basic comprehension of the subject matter. The real learning, as with everything, is getting out there to put it into practice.

But CIU (Collision Investigation) posts are like rocking horse shit so I'll have to wait my turn. I get a three month secondment to the unit each year to keep my hand in, which is good.

If you have a driveway, you could park the car with a fan heater inside, running on the lowest setting, with a couple of windows slightly open. After a few hours the interior will be toasty and the windows foggy as hell.

Well I don't have any advice but I would be interested to know if this is a fault or a feature.

Every air-con equipped car I have been acquainted with has had the same problem. A good long drive with the heater on can cure it for a day or two but it always comes back, meaning you need to run the aircon to get the screen demisted in the morning, which just seems to make the problem worse and you end up having the aircon on permanently.

Just one more thing to try.....make sure the Recirculation button is not pressed. You need to bring in air from the outside to reduce condensation.

I have always found the opposite. If I recirculate the air the windows clear much faster than using fresh air. I would have thought that recirculated air would become dryer as it recycled through the cooling core time after time.

But I am not an expert so my experience may not be the norm :D

I vaguely remember a year or two ago someone who made the news with a VW (Sharan?) with the same problem. He'd got so fed up with it that he'd set up an anti VW website! Can't find it now though!

The aircon should clear (especially on a new car with no water leaks) the screen in seconds. I can put half a dozen wet kids in an 807 and not have a problem at all in that respect although it's true that most air-conditioned cars will mist up a bit when the aircon is turned off after running for a while.
