This is a road I travel every day in both directions, to and from work.

Travelling from East to West, it starts off as a 40 limit and about half way along (just west of 'lake view' to the south of the road) goes down to a 30 limit. HOWEVER, just recently the council have moved the 30 limit about 100 yards or so further east, therefore shortening the 40 limit. What they haven't done is remove the 40 repeater on the westbound side, that now sits about 20 yards into the 30 limit and is visible from both directions!!

The repeater aside, aren't the council supposed to put up 'layout changed' signage to warn that the limit has moved? As someone who uses the road regularly I'm not usually looking for the limit sign, as I USED to know where it was....

It would still be interesting to see if they start enforcing the limit on the stretch of road now that they’ve altered the limits. I'd have my camera ready just in case.

I did wonder about that, but there's not actually anywhere for them to be between the limit change and were I turn off for work. Usually there's cars parked all down the north side as its residential along there and there are buildings backing right onto the road on the south side.

Does the presence of the 'wrong' repeater invalidate the limit along the entire stretch though?

Just trying to get the picture :) . Now that they’ve moved the 30 limit further to the east is it now on the East side of lake view, or even further putting it on the East side of the next road just further along.

So can I assume the speed signs at the stop line in Lake view would have been 40mph (before they changed the limit) when entering the main road, and should now have been changed to 30mph to match the new limit. I only ask because it sounds as though it could be possible to turn West onto the main road and not have seen the new 30mph limit, and once on the main road heading West you would only see the 40 limiter sign and assume it was 40. (if you see what I mean). Might be worth a look when you next go that way.

That's a very good point actually. I've never been down lake view, but I can't recall there being any lollypops there at all. Its a quiet residential street so one would imagine that anyone using it would assume its 30 anyway.

A whole rake of people had their speeding convictions removed last year in Northants.
Tha A45 had road works with a 40mph limit. They forgot to post the change on the slip roads, so people didn't know of it. All the people who complained had their offences removed. Those that didn't, didn't !

Thinking with my cynical head about this last night, I can’t see any real reason why they would have moved the 30mph limit a 100mts or so down the road. If it has been moved to the East side of lake view and there have been no accidents in the area, and as you say there is nowhere to park along that road, maybe that’s why it’s been moved, the scammers need somewhere to park. Watch out for scammers parked in Lake View. Maybe worth a FOI to see if the paperwork is in order.

THB I CAN see the logic behind moving the limit. There's a post office opposite Lake View, always a row of cars parked and the road narrows to a bit of a pinch point. This used to be in the 40 limit.

I am wondering if we have any lurkers from Kennet and Avon council though - I think the repeater's gone now!

It was difficult to see what’s there from the map, it'll still be interesting to see what happens in the future :) .

Maybe we shouldn't keep them so well informed .
