in my youth you just pulled out the holder, replaced and job done for a few Shillings!

not nowadays however, after removing the grille and whole headlamp assembly I eventually replace the thing...............and the cost?, £8.99 for ONE Halogen H7 bulb!, good job I am able to DIY

ERRR!! TB, you should have read the last post about a fortnight ago - Lidl's special limited offer....
TWO x H7 bulbs, = £2.99!! You MIGHT be lucky and find a box left under a pile of wellies or something!

They have spanner and tools on at the moment! Might come in handy for fixing up the caravan this winter!

Accept what you say about access though - Pug 206 requires removal of the windscreen washer filler pipe to access the drivers side bulb! Then you need hands the size of a four year old to be able to get at the bulb holder!

Replacing the headlamp bulb in my old sierra used to take about 30 seconds after lifiting the bonnet. The Mondeo took about 10 times longer because of space restrictions, on my ZT forget it, you have to go in under the wheel arch through the wheel well liner and you have to work at finger tip level, you can't even see it, even Halfords refuse to do it (and they offer a fitting service).

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the bumper needs to come off to change a Golf's bulbs?

And I think that would be the easier option on the n/s headlight on my 307!

I have a 307 SW, and I agree.
I just changed my nearside bulb, and it took 20 minutes, working totally blind, using only feel of the clip to figure out which bit you squeezed!

Takes me back a bit!

One side of the Ka isn't too bad - the nearside... Offside is dodgy, but if the engine bay is cool it's probably easier... There is reasonable access to it though... The sport ka or any ka with A/C is a bit harder, they pack too much in...

Don't know what type mine are ---about 1/2 - 3/4 inch dia, single filament Halogen - only know that i find the little back street garages ( or the one i go to ) charges about £2 each, and about 50p for other lamps -stop tail etc.
Now in the old days when you could strip your parts in the scrappy ----well thats a different story

you would think that changing consumables like bulbs would be easier than it is. I have to take the air intake off on the right side and the, err, (is it the reciever dryier with the sight glass in for the a/c) is in the way on the other side. The plastic tabs and springs come into the equation. It's generally darker when they get replaced to because they're being used more so I can't see as well....

My four heads are easy to get at - problem is that it takes pressure at the right angle to ensure that all the lugs engage-otherwise the beam is either up /down or sudeways.

How come manufacturers get away with such crap design? My Pug 406 had a dash display which could be read under all conditions.
The 307 dash display CANNOT be read with polarised sunglasses on - yet the A/C and heater display CAN!
I emailed Peugeot to ask why - and the chap who replied didn't even understand the science which was causing the problem - let alone want to ensure it would be fixed on future models.

We need to complain like the Americans do!!

From what i read about American cars ,does that get them anywhere ,or is it a status symbol to have a UK car (unless like prophets, cars are not respected in their own country) ]

Is that because of poor security - or because thieves like them

A bit of both. Poor security is an issue. The US does not have an equivalent to the Thatcham security rating which UK insurance companies use to rate cars. Basicaly anything less than catagory 2 (normal cars) and 1 (luxury cars) and you wont get an insurance company to quote you on it so its a big thing with the car manufacturers who need affordable indsurance to sell cars. Most imports to the UK have aftermarket security fitted at the port of entry if not at the factory.

Japanese cars have very poor security in Japan. Mainly because there is so little car crime.
