At last .. I can at least post something positive about BRAKE and can give a  and a  to them. First time in a long time - though I supported them in the public information/PR job over dangers of prescription medicines and just being AWARE of fatigue and feeling "under par"

Anyways.. on page 5 of the Bolton paper tonight - a lovely photo of three to four year olds! Awwwwww! 8-) :) :) I have to say it.. they look so cute!

Per the paper (story by a pool journalist) - around 90 tots from the Grosvenor Nursery School in the Kearsley area of Bolton went on a half hour walk on the busy Market Street of nearby Farnworth.

They learned how to use pedestrian crossings .. zebras and pelicans as part of the the BEEP BEEP Awareness Campaign sponsored by BRAKE Hence the  and  8-) and I give praise where praise is due. I give due criticism over the speed scam debacle as it just does not improve matters! But on this.. BRAKE do deserve a pat on the back. They seem to forget we all want the same thing.. safety - but we also want fairness and proper :bib:s and not :gatso2:

Anyway .. these tots were sponsored by pals and families. They raised £500 which will buy fluorescent tunics and hand wrists which they will wear on all nursery school trips in the future. Any residue will go to Brake's coffers (I think they should spend the whole lot on more road safety education to be honest though  )

headteacher Maureen Vickers as quoted in Bolton local paper wrote:

The children responded very well , enthusiastically and positively to the day. They very quickly learned how important it is to hold hands, look out and listen out when they cross the roads - and the importance of choosing a safe place to cross a road

There! Not rocket science. Not a miracle! You teach it. You continue to teach and reinforce this constantly as they grow and develop. Heavens... I have enough kids of my own - including fosters of various needs, abiltities and capabilities!

To suggest kids do not understand .. are incapable of learning is derogoratory, condescending, patronising and insulting to them. In fact I'd say very politically incorrect to do so :P !

Children absorb facts, ideas and are keen to explore and survive their childhood. But you do have to teach them and teach them well (per a CSN song ;))

Of my own brood.. let's say :yikes: we've had our moments of fun   :D  :? 8-) .. from getting a ladder to retrieve a football from the roof.. :yikes:.. to "helping" me prune the roses in our garden by eating the petals and ..er .. um... the catnip patch did not exactly help matters ... ... :? and climbing a tree only to find they  got - er - a bit stuck up there.. Not to mention the football through the kitchen window.. (fortunately open.. unfortunately hitting Wildy on her bum as she was checking one of her "masterpiece und toppest" cakes.. :yikes:   )
