POSTED TO PEPIPOO TODAY

Lets all get behind this concept folks.
It's time we retaliated for all the propaganda and lies we have been
swallowing.

-----------------------------------------------------------

I personally think that an A4 flyer is the right way to go.

It's the best answer for MASS circulation.

BUT it has to be PUNCHY and say in a limited area the message that
we, (The Motorists of the UK), are being subjected to propaganda.

This has a MAJOR advantage - anyone can put Paper into their printer
and have instant copies. 10, 100 or a 1000.
I can buy 1000 sheets of paper for £6.70.

Think of the effect if only 100 people printed 1000 and circulated
them nationally.

Put them up on local noticeboards. (Libraries, Clubs etc)
See if you local pub would let you circulate them in the bar.
Give them away to friends and relatives.
If you have the b***'s go to your local town center and hand them out
to passers by.
Put them under the Windscreen Wipers in the local Tesco Etc.
Stuff them in the letterbox's of your local area when out for a walk.

I am sure you can all come up with other idea's to circulate them.

I would certainly do all the above.

You could pass on copies to like minded people on an ordinary floppy
disk. Now costs less than 10p

To make an impact the WHOLE message needs to go onto one side of an
A4.

Nothing to stop you having all the supporting information and
statistics on a WebSite that has it's address on the sheet.

The Bullet points are -

1/ Our belief in improved road safety.
2/ Cameras easy way out - Less police on roads catching the REAL
dangerous drivers. (Support with Numbers)
3/ The truth about speeds contribution to accidents.
4/ Road accident numbers were falling until camera's were introduced
but now stagnant or rising again.
5/ The removal of the right to silence.
6/ Make public the unholy trinity of the Camera Partnerships, The
Police and The Magistrates courts. Impartiality removed.

I must disagree with one suggestion and that is to be "Imotive". This
can tend to alienate some of the people we are trying to catch.

If a document is produced that tells the truth and is based on
available data that is in the public domain this will shake the
establishment to it's core.

What these politicians and the other people involved cannot fight is
the TRUTH circulated in a well presented and honest fashion.

The best approach is to personally target it to Mr/Mrs Average
Driver -
"Do They Realise" Etc - Then the message.

If someone will pick up and run with this I can offer my total
support and I will make time to do my share.

Regards

Ixion

There could be a benefit in creating an A4 flyer.

But there's a serious shortcoming in as much as an A4 flyer could not include sufficient detail to be anything other than "argument by assertion". As such it wouldn't enlighten anyone who believes the government propaganda - even if such beliefs aren't strong. My experience suggests that, in general, those who believe in speed camera arguments wouldn't follow up any references - they would just dismiss it as "motorists' propaganda" and throw it away. There might be an important group of target readers who already have an opinion against cameras and would like information sources to support their opinions.

Making a DVD would be great, but people are used to quite high production values from TV and without those production values it might be rather easy to dismiss. Production values are expensive. Then there's distribution - even sending out 10,000 copies might well take ten minutes per copy and that's 42 man-weeks. 100,000 copies would be 420 man weeks. (And ten mins is likely to be light with phone call requests, letter requests, email requests, packing labelling, recording and posting.)

But there are a range of things we could be doing that are less demanding and more effective:

Support Safe Speed. I'm feeding a lot of good information to journalists, politicians, councillors and the "road safety establishment". But Safe Speed is hugely under resourced. Safe Speed needs staff and a budget for travelling, printing, public opinion surveys and even road safety research. I gave up well paid work to do Safe Speed full time and no proper funding is in place. Possibly digging into your own pocket would be less effective than helping us to find sponsors, patrons or fund raisers. If anyone wants to talk about this I'm on 01862 832000.

Spread the word. You can tell friends about Safe Speed and Pepipoo - and ask them to tell others. Even more effective is writing to politicians (especially your own MP, who has an obligation to respond), writing to newspapers and magazines, and calling radio phone ins and so on.

Broadcasters. We haven't yet had a major TV documentary about speed cameras that has examined the issues in any sort of depth. Programms like Panorama and Dispatches need a regular ear bashing telling them that they should be investigating the subject in depth and informing the public.

Chief Constables. Chief constables are responsible for changes in the Police / public relationship. The damage that is clearly being done needs to be brought to their attention. Chief Constables have the power to pull the plug on their camera partnerships and should be persuaded to use it.

Book publishing. I have enough material to publish the Safe Speed web site as a book. (Safe Speed is around 320,000 words, excluding the forums). I have a professional book editor who is trying to help me find a publisher, but it's going very slowly. Publishers tend to dismiss the idea because they think the subject is too simple. As if! If anyone has publishing contacts, please get in touch.

The bottom line here is that it shouldn't really be our business to convince the public - it should be our job to convince the people who convince the public. I'm doing this work, and I'm making wonderful progress, but there's much much more to do. Any assistance would be appreciated.

OK.

I've had a quick punt at the flyer and offer a draft for discussion:

Only the one suggestion really:

PDF files are probably a better format to circulate:

- Less fussy over the OS (Mac, Windows, EPOC, Symbian etc) used to view

- Easier to print

- Usually a little bit smaller.

I'd change a few bits so we have hard hitting questions in big font and the detailed ansers at the bottom.

If Speed cameras save lives how come Road deaths dropped 26% more in a single year from 1992 to 1993 than in the last ten years of speed cameras.

and the bit about 3M people fined should go near the top. That is the - it could be you message.

May be say if Speeding is Anit-social why do we issue 3M fines a year.

The pre accident speed vs. impact speed needs to be simplified for the hard of thinking...

If 50% of pedestrians die when hit at 30mph and 60?% exceed speed limit, why do only 0.12?% of pedestrians hit die?

I would agree that the suggestion that speed cameras are only used as revenue-earners should be made more prominent - people are more likely to take notice if they're in danger of being hit in the pocket.
