Part of the point of the protest (in my opinion) is that, even if you never speed and always stay under the limit, does that make it OK to be constantly monitored by robot cameras?

I mean, I never do hardcore drugs, but that doesn't mean I accept being compulsory tested for it every time I see my doctor, and basically being treated like a) a criminal or b) someone who is extremely likely to be a criminal.

I never have gay sex under the age of 18, but that doesn't mean I want cameras in my house which automatically fine me in case I ever did. I want to be treated like a member of society, not a menace to society.

Speed cameras being the proverbial "thin end of the wedge" you mean March?

It's a fair point, but to be honest I think the CCTV cameras tht are pervading every aspect of our lives are of more concern than speed cameras.

The myth is that these are for prevention. In actual fact they are for detection. Most are un-manned and just record. If someone gets ripped off they look at the film. Not much use if it is you that is getting a kicking in the street.

The more synister side is that some footage is being sold to the media for entertainment purposes... :x That must be an invasion of privacy.

We are the most "observed" people in the world. Does that make you feel safer?.......not me. I can see a time when we all walk around with hoods up just to keep out privacy. Nothing to do with being a criminal, I just want to go through my life without being filmed everywhere I go.

I guess so yes, but it's hard for some people to grasp that and they think you sound like some sort of conspiracy theorist..
