it is strange that such a long discussion has not resulted in a single new person signing the petition!

There have been petitions which have had hundreds of thousands of signatures yet it still falls on deaf Government ears.

Guy Falkes had the right idea; at least their ears prick up for a second when it gets close to home  or when it stings them in their pockets...

You're not seriously trying to suggest he went because of your petetion are you?

I'm not putting you down here, and I do admire your pluck and fervour, but come off it!

I was suggesting the opposite. I would have won a lot of bets, if he had gone during the 6 months of the petition!

Now I'm confused.. Do you want people to sign a petition for some personal gain or to hopefully change an outcome, or situation, which will benefit us all?

What I am saying is the "resign" petition failed, but, in spite of that, I have not given up on the idea that a petition I start might succeed. I don't see where the personal gain comes in --- somebody has to start a petition, and I sign many more than I start. The comment about the bets, was just to agree with you that the "resign" petition had failed, it was not started for that reason.

Currently, it seems to be much harder to get people to sign something on the new gov.uk site, than it was on the old Number 10 petition site, but there is much less filtering of the topics.

The new site is often very slow, and has even been down for some time in its still very short life.

Overall, I do not think it is going to be a very useful site, but I thought I would try it before making a judgment.

Okay, got ya and no offence meant. God loves a Trier. Trouble is we live in a secular country ;)

I don't like to conclude something does not work, unless I have tried it. I am certainly not that hopeful about it though.

What do you think the best way to campaign for this would be?

Intrguingly, Lars von Trier made a film called "Antichrist".

Hmm.. I tend to look at something and see if it's been tried, by how many, and whether there is something I could do better or different. If I can't I don't try, as a general rule.

I haven't seen a petition that has influence Government policy, although I stand to be corrected. I think it's more of a ruse to get the proletariat to think sounding off on their site will make a difference.

Hard work and money, but not necessarily in that order. It's how my friend became a multi millionaire and magnate.

I'm skint and unsuccessful, maybe it's my attitude... :P

Sometimes petitions have had the side effect of getting people to think about an issue, and I think the "resign" petition may have had a small effect of that kind.

It seemed to go down well on "Have I got news for you"! :)

I am still in limbo, and waiting for a reply from an admin. Based on that, I will go or stay.

For what it is worth, as the so-called offended party, I would prefer you to stay. :bighand:
