I have just raised a petition for some traffic cameras to have countdown timers, which I'll post the link if/when its approved. Whilst browsing I found these which I think will be agreeable to some members here.

Did you know you're not allowed to pull forward over the line at a red light if an emergency vehicle needs to pass?

You're not expecting TPTB to take any notice though, are you?

I live in hope. i've been waiting 6 years for TFL to let motorbikes use the bus lanes in london, but still they are conducting studies. I wish I could get a job there, they must play pool and drink tea all day every day.

anyway, my petition is up now, so please feel free to sign away for traffic light countdown timers :-)

The "turn right on red" rule in North America has the proviso that the turner must give priority to pedestrians. It works well in NA but would be a disaster for pedestrians in the UK. In my experience the average American or Canadian driver is much more mature and considerate than his British counter part. In British Columbia, I was warned, that if a motorist hits a pedestrian or cyclist there is presumption that he is at fault. This leads to a very courteous driving style (and breeds children who have little sense of road safety)
