From an Association of British Drivers (ABD) email list:

This web site contains an excellent and unmissable Guide to propaganda. This list of Propaganda techniques is probably the most important part.

They define "propaganda" as follows:

Propaganda is that which is sent from one individual to another and is not true when taken as a whole.

In the terms defined by the website above, Safe Speed is intended to be a propoganda free zone. If anyone spots an example of any of the techniques listed on the main Safe Speed web site, please let me know an I'll remove it.

Please let's also try to keep the forums propaganda free.

But the government is constantly indulging in propaganda. If this site is just to be informational, that's fine, but we need a propaganda site somewhere!

"the government" are supposed to be our elected MPs. Scamera units are unelected quangos appointed by unelected police cheifs.

I think it is time to lean on our MPs a bit more (as well as Pauls very sucessfull press campaign) see http://www.faxyourmp.com/

also
fancy a mass lobby
Quote:
MPs are often contacted by constituents campaigning on behalf of a particular cause, perhaps representing an organised pressure group. It will be for your MP to decide whether to take any action. Anyone who is intending to organise a 'mass lobby'to the House of Commons must contact the Serjeant at Arms Department (0207219 3060) well in advance.

A brainstorm idea - nearer the next election a campaign along the lines of the ciggie packet slogans -EG -"SPEED CAMS ARE HAZARDOUS TO A POLITICIANS CAREER" ETC

Car stickers perhaps - perhaps one of the opposition parties might think motorists votes count??, or an interested sponsor -

From a SS PR -http://www.safespeed.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14342

Anti-speed camera campaigner Paul Smith of Safe Speed said:
“Our research shows one clear cause – drivers are getting worse under the influence of bad road safety policy.

What is needed is a cartoonist in our midst - car stopped for dangerous driving /bit of a shunt etc - one cop talking to other " under the influence? " -other one " yes - bad road safety policy"

Drivers are like donkeys -they respond best to a carrot, not a stick .Road safety experts are like Asses - best kept covered up ,or sat on

Propaganda used to just mean the dissemination of information in support of a cause, but gained its current interpretation during the 20th century.

All campaigns use propaganda - some just use it more honestly than others.

The Wikipedia article on the subject is a good one.

This site was set up to present the facts of speed and exceeding the speed limit in relation to road safety as opposed to the half-truths and distortions of the propaganda behind speed camera justification. To engage in or condone propaganda would be hypocritical, and pointless given the evidence- Propaganda is a tool of those whose agenda is unmarketable unless they distort the truth.
