Please help spread the word and get this petition noticed as it has been online about a week and so far only have 14 responses. I feel it is a BIG issue to all drivers in this country. Portsmouth have recently made roads 20mph and have stressed that it should be rolled out across the country. They believe this is one step in the right direction for road safety, but what its really about is blaming motorists for road accidents instead of education of road safety in our schools. 30mph is an adequate speed limit for residential roads and is a relatively safe speed limit for all road users. Lowering the speed limit would cause more congestion on our roads, extend journey times including bus services, pretty pointless if you ask me. Not to mention more carbon emissions that the government are always barking on about. More petrol burned as a result of using a lower gear, more tax at the pump as a result. The potential for more accidents as people become more interested in reading their speedometer instead of the road.

Please help with my campaign to stop this from rolling out across the country.

Are there any petitions asking for speed limit determination to be given back to the Police, where bureaucratic local authorities can't lower them?

I won't be signing this. 20mph limits in residential areas make the roads more user friendly for people walking and cycling, and we need to see more of both.

This petition closed last summer, so of course you won't be signing it!

I'm sure it's just for those reasons, and nothing to do with you hating cars. Do you care that crashes in 20mph zones are more dangerous on average than those in 30mph zones? Thought not. As long as motorists are being restricted and penalised, you're happy, aren't you? "Safety" is only a "concern" to you when you think you can use it as an excuse to campaign for anti-car measures (not that you should need such excuses if anti-car measures are so great in their own right).

And goodness knows why you're dredging up threads that are a year old.
