I see they have rejected another petition as being 'identical to an existing petition'. http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/scrap-speed-cams

But this is interesting...

In the rejection note they say:

Additional information about this rejection: http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Gatsospeedcamera

And following the link we find:

We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Remove all speed Gatso cameras on open roads subject to the National Speed Limit.
Submitted by Alan Spencer – Deadline to sign up by: 11 June 2007 – Signatures: 83

Which really isn't the same at all. I wonder why they didn't link to our 'scrapcam' petition which is much closer. Are they worried, or are they worried?

The scrapcam petition now has 19,284 signatures and is still in 9th place out of 6,251 petitions.

The following signatures per day graph applies:

Image

Day 43 was yesterday - Friday 23rd March - 109 signatures.

Blue days are Saturdays and Sundays.

Yesterday's good mention in the Daily Star doesn't seem to have helped.

On Day 34 we got a good - and wide ranging - news mention from PA Press on the cancelled side effect research story. I gave about 6 or 7 radio interviews that day. There was a good item in the Daily Mail, but none of those mentioned the petition.

In 10th Place is a fast-rising petition to scrap a mega mosque. It's 2,801 behind but catching up fast and will probably overtake in a couple of days.

Well, that's not so bad. Those horrible big bitting insects can be a real pain on a nice summer's evening.

Bumped to 11th by something about student loan interest.

Now on 19,607.

But it's SLOW SLOW SLOW with only 50 signatures since midnight. This will be a record low day.

Now nearing 20,000. With 19,874 signatures, it'll turn 20,000 with just 126 more.

With a bit of help from our friends we can do it today.

If you agree that speed cameras haven't saved lives and you haven't already signed, please do so now.

Once you have signed - pass the message on. There are helpful materials in this thread including an email template and a web banner.

And the web site front page is very helpful just now for promotion purposes.

10th again

We got a 'free' jump up to 10th when the '0870' one expired - one hour late at 1pm. I guess their clock is still on GMT.

Currently on 20,399, with just over 1,000 (1,005) to the next one up the road, and the next one behind almost 4,000 (3,964) behind.

The petitions site has vanished. Possibly it's down. Possibly it's something else.

In the last couple of days the end date of the scrapcam petition has been changed from 29th June to 26th of June. This IS in line with my original request, and is in line with an email I sent when the petition was established:

Quote:

Hiya,

Many thanks.

I thought I requested an end date of 26th June? But you have set 29th?

Can this be changed?

And can the URL at the end of the description be made 'clickable'?

They responded immediately to the URL request by deleting the URL entirely.

The date change came about 70 days later - after the end of the petition has been widely publicised as 29th June. Is this sharp practice?

Not sharp practice, just left hand/right hand - which has stacked up against you. Easy to say, but your e-mail sent of ripples in several directions. You'd have been better off not sending it.

9th

After a long slow climb we have finally overtaken the Royal Surrey County Hospital one.

Paul - Beg pardon, but I can't remember if I've signed this or not. Is there any harm in me doing it now?

I don't want to fiddle things and sign it twice, but OTOH I do want to support it once! Is there any way of checking who has signed etc.?

Best wishes all,
Dave.
