Driving home this afternoon along the A34/Kingsway in Manchester - 40mph DC. Had just turned off the M60 and was heading over the bridge that crosses the motorway. Just as I passed over the bridge I noticed some geezer in a flourescent yellow jacket and tripod mounted camera in front of us, (as well as a swarm of brake-lights coming on - 40mph is rather slow for a lot of this road). I was doing about 45-50 at the time so there was a moment of panic as I braked to get my speed down to 40 - not sure that I did it in time though. As I passed the camera I noticed the van parked on a side road hidden behind some bushes
However, as I only live a short walk from this spot I decided to wander down and see what was going on - take a few photos for evidence on lack of visibility should I happen to have been pinged; maybe even speak to the camera operator if I felt courageous enough
Upon arrival at the enforcement spot I was quite surprised to see that these were genuine Police Officers though. And what I thought was a scam van was actually a standard Police Car. I also watched them as they pinged a van and subsequently walked out into the road to pull the van over.
So my queries are - do the Police themseleves ever operate on behalf of the Camera Partnerships? Or do they ever prosecute via the 2 week NIP process? The fact that I actually saw them pulling drivers over does suggest this was something slightly different than standard Mobile Enforcement, but I have to admit to being a little concerned given that my indicated speed as I approached them was probably around the 45mph mark
