Some time ago I drove a 3 series BMW which emitted a discreet audible chime through the car's speakers when the car reached 70. Is there a device that can be fitted after market that can be set to chime at 28, 38, 48, 58, 68?

I appreciate that if one drove at say exactly 40 it would be annoying if the chime beeped constantly, not sure if this can be got round, but this has got to be better than constantly glancing at the speedo with the risk of missing a hazard or running into the back of the car in front.

I also appreciate that a good driver should be capable of maintaining a constant speed, but sometimes it can be difficult to judge in congested stop-start traffic or if a tailgating maniac is behind.

Anyone heard of such a device?

Thanks,

Ric

I know some of the GPS camera warning systems (Road Angel et al) have options of displaying the current limit, so maybe they have an audible warning for when you go over?

Ric, I know someone who bought one of these: http://www.originb2.com/. He says as long as you keep it updated it knows where all the sites are, and if you;re over the limit it gives you a voice warning of the speed limit when you approach one. I've seen it working, and it gave plenty of advance warning. The website also says "User definable and programmable setting for over-speed warnings", which makes it sound like it can be programmed as Hornet suggests.

I own one of the Origin B2 GPS detectors and I find it incredibly usefull and very easy to use. It is necessary to update it regularly to keep up with new sites and it will remind you to do so if you have not done so for some time.
It emits a warning bleep as you approach a camera site and if you are over the speed limit it will give you a voice warning and continually bleep.
As Gatsobait stated, it is possible to set an overspeed warning although this will not vary according to different roads and speed limits.
The device can be set to give you a warning up to 2000m away although I prefer a 15 second warning - choose your own preference.
A very usefull aid.
