Fit tachographs to the cars owned by the members of T2000 and Brake.

Observe said members in paroxysms of post-hoc rationalisation as they desperately try to justify the occasions on which they inevitably drift over the limit.

If we could come up with some GPS connected dataloggers with speed limit knowledge we might even be able to turn it into a challenge.

That'd be fun.

Anyone got any ideas about hardware and software? Any PDAs do that?

Had the in-laws down this weekend.

Father-in-law got quite heated on the importance of obeying all speed limits all the time.

So every time thereafter he was driving us anywhere (and only he may drive...) I went "John, you're speeding", EVERY TIME he exceeded the limit.

Yeh, TomTom 4 on a PDA did the logging quite comfortably. Full journey data logs - can be replayed (at varying speeds), to provide time (sat. accurate), location & ground speed. Using the GPS sensor section - NOT the main program. Not sure about the latest version 5 though - never got round to trying it. There are 'overlays'/ POI's for various speed cams etc that give the road/camera speed warning eg. flashes

A POI database could be generated for every UK road, to 'ping' the road speed per junction or section and 'offences' could be tallied from crossing these boundaries at excess speeds. Manually only - no automated way of logging excess at present on Sat Nav, as it's never been designed for this application.

Leeds University must have pretty much everything required from the GPS based speed limiter trials.

Since they found their own volunteers would override the system whenever there was an opportunity to speed I think we can predict the outcome.
