I don't see how anybody in their right mind would like that as a job, and be hated by 3/4 of the population.

One might suspect that, in the main, the people who operate the cash-cameras fall into one of the following groups:

They can't get a 'proper' job.
They are nasty little 'mean-minded' people with a 'zero' in personality and social skills.
They are 'control freaks' who like the apparent power it gives them.
They get some sort of perverse pleasure in 'pissing people off' for no good reason other than collection of the cash.

Have I missed any out?
You tell me.

Because they are quite normal, rational and responsible people who quite simply don't take the same view of the issue that you or I do?

Rigpig; right on! You don't have to be in the army to get stuck in the war. Camera Operator is a regular contributor and much though I disagree with his view of the world I welcome his presence on the forum.

Even if they didn't agree with it, it's hard to be principled when you have a mortgage to pay and kids to feed. I'm sure most take the view that if they didn't do it someone else would, and they would be out of a job.

The only two I have ever met had been civilianised by their force. They seemed rather peeved about this and reading between the lines, it seemed that they either took the job in the camera unit or were out on their ear.

They were both bitter.

Think about it, sit in a warm van drinking coffee all day? it's a damn cushy way to pay the bills if you've got no principles, especially if you're too lazy to do some hard graft.

not biting on that but lets expand on what you mean 'hard graft'

no doubt you have read my history within the police
traffic warden - cushy number until decrimanalised
enquiry clerk - dealing with the families of the scum that had been locked up, verbal abuse, threats, crap shift patterns, pressure on from the duty inspector to taketheir crap as well with regard to incident updating,
cctv- again a cushy number but crap shifts
ANPR- ok but again crap shifts (nights) changed rest days short notice to suit departmental needs
SCP - rotas prepared weeks in advance, no pressure to achieve targets (yes no pressure to achieve targets) i cannot determine what happens on the day, no on your shoulder supervision, none of the political correctness
you have in a station

outside police lets see

heavy industry, buildings, fire service (unable to continue due to accident at work wherea sliped disc occured)

as for principles - lets see yes i got principles, i dont agree with all the law but after all it is the law at present and until it changes i do whatever is required to enforce it

so thats my history hairyben- wouldyoulike to enlighten us with ypourbackground

That's not fair. I'm absolutely certain that many of them believe that they are saving lives. It take fairly sophisticated analysis to be certain that the claims are false. And all sorts of apparently trustworthy organisations seem to support speed cameras as a way of improving road safety.

ADVERT IN JOBCENTRE - "CAMERA OPERATIVE"

PERKS - knowing where speed traps are and getting car onto the "wipe out photo register". Getting to know police so as to avoid penalty points on licence (as needed to drive scam van)

DISADVANTAGES - branded as person with no moral values.

REQUIRED ABILITIES - must be thick skinned, with no conscience , ability to merge self and vehicle into background an advantage, but extensive training in this and other despicable traits will be given. Ex seconhand (back street) car sales persons would be eminatly suitable ( due to lack of scruples)
Ignorance of law preferred.Ability to manipulate figures an advantage.

11 years electrical contracting.

had a short spell for a call out firm a few years back, the money was good but I didn't have the lack of principles to make my £3k/week target, so now i just try to provide a decent reasonable service being self employed, which often isn't easy when authorities want to to issue me fines for every imaginable vehicle related minor so-called misdemeanour, yet when crackheads and pikeys break into my van and steal my tools- my livelyhood- the police take the pi55 out of me.

BTW i view ripoff call out concerns and government PCN stealth tax piracy as being exactly the same thing.
