The more amazing statistic is that, apparently, four out of ten teens don't know anyone who has been involved in an accident or near miss

One of them begins to cross the road, but is distracted by his friends. He looks one way as he steps into the road, but a car comes from the other direction and knocks him down.

Should not this be classed as "Pedestrianising without due care and attention"

Yes, if we assume that an RTA involving a pupil will always be announced in the school assembly, the entire school will know when a pupil has been in an accident. So, 40% of schools must have not had any pupils at all involved in an accident?

Typical! Placed a take on this on the "Chat" forum - based on Manchester Evening News first edition version (second edition was just slightly different in wording for some reason :? (they put "sometimes" in point 2 for example  - there were others too - give just a slighltly altered nuance of meaning to my mind.... probaby version 2 is on "manchesteronline" site... )

For record - school our kids go to - NO child involved in accident.

For record - Wildy's cousin Jessika (think she posted on CSPC site a couple of times?) she teaches in an innner city Liverpool school - NO child in history of the school was involved in any RTC - but the school lost THREE pupils in the Hillsborough disaster in 1989.

For record - my own sister Jan teaches in an inner city Manchester comp. To date NO pupils involved in any Road traffic incident - but one arrested on a drugs charge and another for assaulting someone away from shool premises. Nice that she is expected to deal with this type and judged if her discipline is found "wanting" Who would be a teacher? I really respect these people. Cannot be easy.

Both women had parents currently being prosecuted over truancy though - so they tell us when they unburden themselves to us.. Tis stress - it's good to spit it out  Do not think I am betraying any real confidences at moment as no mames or schools mentioned  .
