Yet again today I was crossing a traffic light junction (going straight ahead) and some bod in a Landy turns right across in front of me. I hooted like mad and he stops just in time. I see in pasing that he has a MOB up to his ear.

This is not the first time and in fact any time I see a vehicle being driven erratically I would bet the farm that the driver is holding a MOB. Another time, in a supermarket car-park a Landy (yet again!) rolls back and forth and I discover some idiot trying to park using one arm....I though there was a law against this? It is far more dangerous than a few MPH over the limit IMHO.

I can't imagine there being a law that specifically demands two handed steering at low speeds, like parking etc. It just does not seem reasonable, though on reflection the law quite often has little to do with that.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

I really wish that the law would demand two eyes and one mind on the road - particularly at low speeds, where there's danger.

In case that last point is less than obvious, people slow down where there's danger. This is very important, so I'll repeat it - people slow down where there's danger, because there is danger. But, because there is danger, it's not enough to simply slow down - one has to be extra vigilant along with it. Slowing down does not fully compensate for the increased danger - often not nearly enough.
We are told by many people that slowing down gives you more time to react. This is simply not true. The reality is that it's the level of danger which reduces the time we have available to react, so we slow down to give us more of a chance to be able to react in the shorter available time.

On the other side of the coin, where there's little or no danger there's no need to slow down - slowing down isn't going to make things any safer than they already are.

Cheers
Peter

i don't think the law regarding mobile phones relates to the speed of the vehicle at the time,

i have seen car, bus , van, lorry and skip drivers oblivious to what they are doing. the same goes for overtaking on double white lines, overtaking on chevrons undertaking etc.

i wish i could download something in here of bad driving

This is the reason why your presence at the side of the road is a bit of a sore point. All you can do is nick people for speeding! If someone drives past at 29mph with the phone in one ear, a drink in the other hand, half way across the white linese in the middle of the road, stearing with his knees, you can't do anything about it.

It's an absolute offence, is speeding: Easy to send of the invoice asking for money - that's why

And how often do your pigging speed carmeras (that can be see ilegaly parked) pick these clowns up Mr Tax Collector??? I've heard they arn't very good at stopping people with out tax and insurance and mot's and stolen cars and drunk drivers and drugged drivers are a problem for them too, just don't speed though....

Well said Pete - now how about a camera to catch the need for extra caution - the cyclist/pedestriaN with phone in ear and mind on call,
