On Wednesday I overtook a truck on a nice long, flat and junction free straight, as I pulled out I spotted the van in the lay-by at the far end of the straight. Now I know I did not exceed the limit, there was no need to, and couldn't help but think how typical it was to put a van somewhere that drivers are going to overtake. Admittedly you would have to be blind not to see the van so there was no sneakiness involved and provided you had plenty of room to pass it would not be a problem.

The thing is there is this little niggle in the back of my head that I might get a nasty little letter. I wasn't speeding, but was right on 60mph and I just don't trust them...

Weird isn't it?

Yep that's what it's all about, catching drivers overtaking safely when the real dorks who overtake near bends or cross onto the other side of the road don't get caught...but then they probably weren't speeding...hence safe!

My views do not represent Safespeed but those of a driver who has driven for 39 yrs, in all conditions, at all times of the day & night on every type of road and covered well over a million miles, so knows a bit about what makes for safety on the road, what is really dangerous and needs to be observed when driving and quite frankly, the speedo is way down on my list of things to observe to negotiate Britain's roads safely, but I don't expect some fool who sits behind a desk all day to appreciate that.

:gatso2: I feel your pain. I live close to a main road and just a short distance away there's a steep hill. I've often seen a scamera van parked at the bottom of this hill. Applying simple physics, a wheeled object that can freewheel downhill will increase speed.

Sneaky, isn't it? But they've never caught me yet.
