It has been reported in the local press that the 50MPH speed limit, campaigned by local councillers from Ringwood, has been rejected following lack of support by the police. Out of 59 accidents over the last 3 years only two were put down to speed.

I thought one of the comments reported from a coucillor when he conceded that, "although lowering the speed limit would have been a relatively cheap and easy to implement it may not be the solution needed", shows what is wrong with present thinking, just do something that is cheap but don't worry if it is not the correct solution.

Well at least they took notice of the Police's opinion, which is what seems to be a thing of the past for most councils these days.

The local campaign to get the limit reduced on this section of road was given a gift by the recent death of a 16 year old girl who was involved in an accident on her moped. However, it would appear that the incident was not speed related other than lack of experience on her part in taking her 30mph limited scooter onto a very busy NSL dual carriageway. The driver who hit her was uninsured, had been disqualified and, unsurprisingly, did a hit and run in his Volvo XC90.

An unfortunate incident but I am glad that the usual knee-jerk reaction was not carried out.

Strange - nationwide , police have rejected a lot of limit lowering ,but tghe County officers have over ridden this. Has the tide turned with councillors getting back in the speed driving seat.

I think this is a road controlled by the Highways Agency, not the local council. The HA are in general more resistant to inappropriate limits.
