When I learned ( way back in the dark ages when cars had distributors and turbos /servos/ABS were unknown) , my driving school insisted on night driving training. Perhaps I was fortunate in choosing a driving school looking to teach folks about driving rather than todays production line training where learning how to pass was more important. The vast majority of my time was spent in the city, where ahead thinking was cultivated. Two lane road on a bus route- bus aproaching stop with folks waiting- get into outer lane as bus might stop. Sometoime we'd head out onto more urban routes where road reading was developed . Stage two - I had my licence and was passed into an uncle's hands to get more training. part of the way older drivers were trained, not taught to pass the test and thrown to the wolves. in those days, get pulle up by a traffic cop ,and they'd examine your licence and if a newbie, you'd get a dressing down with reasons or advice on your driving. A cop in a car was there to educate ,first and foremost. That's the way to make our roads safer again .
