Well, once again, what’s needed are more traf pol. What better than they to observe and pull over drivers behaving badly or those who have aquired bad habits. I’ve always thought that was an important part of their job but I don't see it happening much. I guess it's because, being a civilian in a normal car, they feel they can act like idiots around me. Not something I’m entirely comfortable saying tbh, but it makes a case for more unmarked traf pol.
I’ve been going to a monthly meeting locally for IAMs which has lots of active and retired police and I have to say I’m finding it really interesting. I can be totally up front and honest with them about everything and, in return, they are the same with me and impart great wisdom which reinforces my experiences. It’s actually done a lot to assure me they are ‘on my side’ so to speak and not always just out to get you. Some of the stories are a bit gruesome and graphic mind; one of the speakers is a paramedic.
One of the sad things I’ve noticed, though, is some of the traf pol I have observed or followed, who should serve as a good example to us all, sometimes leave a lot to be desired with
their driving: indicating, road position, safe driving distance and..er.. speed. (Cough).
