Anyone watch it . What did amaze me was how certain counciols ( as shown ) neglect certain signs . And it was nice to see joe public fighting back . One thing not very obvious was that in one case where a sign was out of position, there was no comeback on the council .

Yes, I watched this and it was no surprise that non-compliance with correct signage etc. is commonplace. The system relies on people paying up without protest.

I was a bit disappointed that the outcome of the builder's case in the High court was not given.

i was as well, but morec concerned that the elderly bloke that took a similar case to the High Court ( on similar evidence) lost it . Seemed to parallel the High Court cases on bank charges (as in HMG having to cough up massively)

I watched the programme, and I was particularly disappointed that the man lost his case in the High Court, at very high financial and personal cost to himself and his wife. Presumably, in due course, we'll hear how the building contractor fared with his case in the High Court, and I certainly hope he wins; but the matter of on-street parking, and possible penalties for transgressions, is not clear cut to my mind.

On the one hand we can't have a free-for-all, otherwise our streets would be cluttered up with parked vehicles causing obstruction and inconvenience, and that wouldn't be right. On the other hand I don't like local councils getting unduly heavy handed with drivers who want to park for a brief period for some genuine reason, and I definitely do not like the extent and nature of their enforcement methods, so I would like to see their wings getting severely clipped in that regard.

Having said all that, I will not pay for on-street parking, so I park in places where there is no charge. What I am willing to do is pay to use car parks that have been specifically constructed for that purposes, so long as the charges are reasonable. I have no problem with that.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

Dave (aka Triple S ) - that's my sentiments. But (and I know we're of the same sort of age) we think like that. I park off road at home ,because blonde over the road can't /won't park ( A progrqam for Jeremy to consider ), and as our road is so narow -I did once park the LWB /HITOP Transit on our garden ,but to get it set up - it had front wheels on one kerb, and rears on the other side . I was always taught to think of other drivers when parking . What seems to be missing from driving/parking today is the idea of "doing to others ,what youd like done to you". in that respect, the authoritarian way of setting driver against driver has won . I see it when traffic is heavy. A bit of courtesy and we all move along smoothly . In the days pre production line learning, COAST was something taught . Nowadays ,it somewhere to go for a day out .

Sadly I missed the beginning but it was a v interesting program .., High Court cases take an age so I'm hoping that we will hear the result in time. Maybe the chap may find his way here - that woudl be good. :)
I think the correct signage is a 'sign' of lazy Councils. They have a Legal obligation to ensure they are correct and in law if it isn't correct it may as well not exist - end of and any COurt failing to appreciate that ought to be hauled over the coals !

I do think that Courts too must get frustrated when cases are brought but fail to prove their case in point and so they cannot rule in 'favour' of the 'injured party'. Not saying that this happened here as we only got very limited info on it but something went wrong.

It would be good to see fair play with parking it is a mine field. I think streets that now-a-days have lots of yellow lines and just a few parking spaces is shameful. Why do we need the yellow lines when society needs more parking ? It has to be with control of social behaviours which IMHO is NOT something for Councils to be toying with. They rarely include bicycle parking anywhere, and limited spaces for m/bikes too. Seems a poor show really when there is such a high demand! I get fed up of empty permit holder spaces and I want to be 5 minutes !
I wonder if we didn't make all parking free other than in car-parks where it was a minimal fee and much better and fairer wardens to deal with the 'problems'.
There are many many places outside of major urban areas where there are no charges ... and people one the whole are sensible. Why do we have such little faith in society that it 'will' all "go to carnage if we let people do what they need" ?
Isn't it time that people come first, than the 'authorities wishes' ?
Why in shopping areas do we segregate out two areas of society, disabled and 'families', what about all the other groups like 'working people' and so on ... why not just have 'wide bays' and standard bays and no segregation ? Why do we need so much charging and all the admin overheads ?

SS2 -one thing that stood out was those standing up for their rights suggesting that if EVERYBODY contested ,then the system wouls fall apart .Have we heard that before -does speeding come to mind .
