Governments make Laws to order the way in which a society behaves.
When someone 'goes to Law' about something, they ask a court to decide if it was done legally.
So the layman is usually better represented by someone who understand the Court system/s, this also helps the Courts time, as procedures do not have to be explained.
It is human nature to try to benefit from a situation and the Court system is no different.
Problems can occur when the balance of Court decisions is more persuaded one way or another, and it may result in justice not being served and the public failing believing that the system has failed to do its job properly.
The Court and justice is open to this vulnerability.
Understandably some persons with intricate knowledge of the Court system, may use that to their benefit and for their clients benefit, whether that be on the side of the Prosecution or the Defense.
