Does anyone know when the infernal roadworks around Newport will be complete? Coupled with the widening around Cardiff, completed a year or so ago, disruption has been ongoing for 3 to 4 years now. It seems that the Welsh authorities have a wish to stifle business and tourism in South Wales through a never-ending series of lane and complete motorway closures, often with incomplete signing of diversionary routes (as was the case having been diverted off at J26 going east last night).

Also, what's with the ongoing "temporary" extension of the 50mph speed limit eastwards towards Magor Services "for a reason" but not saying what the reason is? There's no roadworks occurring so I guess it's to compensate for yet another stretch of sub-standard motorway construction as seems to be norm for most of the South Wales. Even during periods of moderate rainfall, the entire south Wales stretch is restricted to 50mph due to very poor surface drainage, particularly noticeable around Swansea where rivers flow across the road and large pools build in the central reservation, extending into lane 3.

In short, almost the entire M4 beyond the "Welcome to Wales" sign is a disgrace, having been cobbled together through years of piecemeal tinkering.
