2e. Termination of National Communications Spokesperson role
CR notified the Board that all Safety Camera Partnerships had recently received a letter from Ian Duncan about Susan Beck, the Safety Camera Programme National Communications Lead, who is employed on a fixed term contract via a hosting arrangement with Northamptonshire Police. Northamptonshire Police has informed the DfT that they wish to terminate this arrangement when the current contract ends on 31 March 2005. The DfT has taken the opportunity to give consideration to the future of Susan’s role and has decided that the role will be discontinued by the end of March 2005. The DfT is proposing that one of the existing Partnership Communications Managers might be interested in taking on the wider
role of the Partnerships Spokesperson and is planning to contact them soon to help establish the role. PC commented that national publicity had never been dealt with satisfactorily and this occurrence would not help matters. Both KH and IP thought it presented Partnerships with an ideal opportunity to employ an independent agency to work on their behalf. CR
explained that this issue will be discussed further by south-east Communications Managers at a meeting on 24 January and on a national level at the National Conference in Manchester on 3 & 4 February
