Wirral is going to give out speed guns instead of building road humps in an attempt to cut speeding in 20mph zones.

Link http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/liverpoo ... -20626748/

Cannot wait for the reports of 3 and 400 mph cars but seriously how can they prove that they have used the gun properly and what will the police do.

Mind you I suppose on todays rates a speed bump costs £1000's to build, planning, time, labour costs, maintenance, white lining, upkeep and guns are cheaper, one off purchase around £1500, I believe, unless anyone knows better.

And speed camera's make money, speed bumps don't. :)

Where do YOU live, where they upkeep humps?

Ours are just left with faded or missing white lines, no drainage (large puddles behind when it rains) and worn or damaged margins which shred the side walls of your tyres!!

Also speed guns in the hands of joe public cannot be used to raise funds.
It's only a matter of time before some chav get's gunned, and reverses up and snatches it from the operator. Hopefully they wont use knives or guns to force the hand over!

Its all to do with making the dumb unthinking public think "something is being done" and thus feel better.

As has been said on here countless times, most public complaints say "speeding" when the complaint is actually about the fact that traffic is heavier than people like. They certainly wouldn't like more cars going more slowly past their houses. They asked for the 20 zones (which are supposed to be self-policing anyway) and now they don't like it.

Don't worry, they won't be out in the rain or late at night.

I thought the police have been saying that they didn't want the public taking the law into their own hands. What on earth are they trying to do by doing just that?

I have seen one of these areas, the signs are not TSRGD compliant it appears to be some kind of informal 'educational' set up, I have contacted the council and will ask about planning permission for the signs, and Sectretary of States exemption for these signs to be placed on the Highway, I missed a returned call last week but will chase it up.
I will try to post up photo's of the signs, i'll take some tomorrow if possible.

As 'ammo' could someone point me to the 20 mph zones having more accidents than 30 zones statistics that I have seen quoted on this site.

Just a quick off the cuff try this

Also if you look at Paul's PR552 it might give you some help.

Yes...I see you're someone else who's realised that the majority of people really are that stupid and the stupid shout louder without thinking.
