Related to this was an article either in the paper or BBC news about the risk centres of the brain not being fully developed until someone reaches the age of 25 or thereabouts. Perhaps raising the minimum age for a driving licence might be a better idea than messing around with speed limits/speed enforcement and concentrate on the real risky drivers. If you raised it as far as 21 would we find the accident rate dropped sharply?

Probably - but part of that would simply result from fewer drivers on the road.

Not going to happen - now they're even going to allow people to be MPs at 18.

I can't off the top of my head think of anything else that over-18s are legally excluded from doing.

It would also raise issues of social exclusion in non-urban areas.

I would have been absolutely screwed if the driving age was 25, I was 20 when I passed and even that was difficult relying on lifts to work for nine months

Where I live there is no PT to anywhere useful, certainly not arriving before 9am or leaving at useful times.

Employers want reliable staff - so people using lifts with parents raises concerns. Moving into the city is possible (if you have an income), but even that isn't a solution because you might change jobs and end up back at square one (but possibly with more PT options).

I have considered cycling, and that is always my backup plan - but it is 8.5 miles on a very busy A-road (or in the summer, six miles on old railway line and two miles on a back-road), however my office only has a tiny toilet room with limited hot water.
