says the Mayor of Osthein, Ost-Hessen .. who put up the fixed cams at a cost of €45,000

Ostehessen News.de wrote:

because the "vans were not preventing speed"

:? :? :?

So what make him think the cams will? But he ist :yikes: planning to do a Blackpoo cluster..

But they don't really work that well there .. apart from the 100 yard stretch on the dual carriageway toward M55 ... opposite the dinky little windmill..

He refer specifically to a car crash there which killed two pedestrians a year ago

piece from Osthessen News.de translated by me from German orginal wrote:

Besonders betoente er einen Unfall.bei dem ein ALKOHOLISIERTER Fahrer vor gut einem Jahr 2 Fussgaenger toetete.

He specifically stressed an accident whereby a drunken driver killed two pedestrians

:? :? :?

Excuse me? But how does a speed cam or a forest of them prevent this? Surely a police officer on normal frequent patrolling.. ?

Und this incident could have happened anywhere und can still happen elsewhere given that folk are stupid enough to drink .. even drug .. und drive .. as well as use Handy phones und the like... :banghead: Why ist this preoccupation with a scam which fail to deliver .. :banghead:

However, the report go on to say that

article from "Osthessen News wrote:

The mobile cameras twice caught cars which had collided with a garden wall through excess speed

Well .. they did not prevent the accident as claimed nor curb the speeding as claimed Apparently there ist a 50 km/h limit on this road. The mobiles copped these cars at "significantly over the limit"

The mayor hopes people will see the big yellow painted digital camera but adds

Quote:
"ich weiss aber auch, dass der Blitzer kein absolute Sicherheit garantieren kann"

But I also know that no speed cam can guarantee safety

But there ist also difference in the penalty pointing und was really the reason why the fine only.. one -two points according to level of speed touted in UK Parliament. It EU .. or rather German way

At 60 km/h speed the driver get 15€ fine - no points.

At 11-15 km/h over this 50 kph limit .. it rise to 25€

At 16-20 km/h - they get fine of 35€

At 71 km/h (21 km/h too fast) .. they get 50 € fine und ONE Penalty point

At 76km/h.. it rise to 3 penalty points und higher fines.

So.. it double discussion post.

No doubt weepej und hjeg1 or 2.. I lose count  will want the Gatso regardless of whether or not it fail to stop the cars going through the garden wall or the drunk killer driver.. und not be in favour of Germany's penalty pointing system.

The rest of us might like to discuss how well this could be implemented in UK und how far it may improve things or not.

There was a crash 50 yards from here last week. A lady on driving a cocktail of alcohol and Temazepam hit another car, ended up parked upside down on the roof and had to be released by firemen. Amazingly nobody was seriously hurt.
