Police Speeders To Lose Licences

Amnesty offered to officers ahead of looming crisis due to the 7 points rule that could mean a shortage of police drivers...
Hundreds of police officers face losing their police driving licences after being caught by speed cameras.
In London alone, a “significant” number of officers have not declared penalty points clocked up off duty, as required by rules.
The Metropolitan Police have offered an amnesty to staff to own up to penalty points before action is taken against them.
But top brass fear a looming crisis from the amnesty because regulations mean all police workers on seven points or more will still be banned from driving any vehicle on duty — including their own.
A source said: “Police driving permits are taken away from any staff who accrue seven points or more.
"There will be hundreds affected and it could lead to a shortage of drivers.”
In another headache for under-fire Met Commissioner Sir Ian Blair, the Directorate of Professional Standards — investigating staff over disciplinary claims — became aware of the driving points during checks on the Police National Computer.
Sources said that in a small number of cases, PNC checks also led to undeclared criminal convictions being found.
The amnesty for Met workers to disclose driving points runs until the end of this month.
A Met spokesman said: “Taking into account the possibility that some Fixed Penalty Notices are not reported through ignorance of their responsibility, officers will not face a misconduct investigation if they declare them by November 30.”
He said it did not mean cops will have penalty points removed from their licences.
